1940 Willys Coupe

OVERVIEW

This performance-built 1940 Willys two-door coupe is driven by a supercharged 540ci V8 that has been upgraded with a Littlefield blower, fender well headers, Dart heads, and a two-stage nitrous system. Power is sent rearward through a Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission and meets the pavement through Mickey Thompson drag radials. This coupe comes with a full roll cage, a safety harness, and shaved door handles. Finished in Intense Blue Pearl over a gray cloth interior, this Willys is now offered with build records and a clear New Hampshire title in the seller’s name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

This 1940 Willys coupe uses a street rod body from Outlaw Performance in Avonmore, Pennsylvania that was coated in Intense Blue Pearl. Custom treatment includes a tilt nose, recessed headlights and taillights, shaved door handles, and chrome side pipes. The seller notes that there is a quarter-sized ding on the nose.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Centerline polished aluminum 15-inch wheels are equipped with staggered-width and staggered-diameter tires. The rear end is equipped with Mickey Thompson drag radials.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The two-tone gray and blue interior comes with gray power-adjustable cloth bucket seats, a full roll cage, and a four-point safety harness on the driver's side. Features include power windows and door poppers as well as air conditioning.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a speedometer and a Redline tachometer. The odometer reportedly shows 500 miles; the actual mileage on the chassis is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The supercharged 540ci V8 is based on an aluminum block from New Century Performance that has been upgraded with Dart blower heads, a Blower Drive Service (BDS) fuel-injection system, a Littlefield 1471 blower kit, a two-stage nitrous system, fender well headers, and dual radiators with copper up front and aluminum at the rear. The motor was serviced in September of 2022 but could use a tune-up because it was sitting, according to the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission with a Hurst lockout shifter.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This coupe rides on a boxed frame with a chromed Pinto front suspension, four cross-members, two driveshaft safety loops, and a quick-change rear end. Stopping is handled by disc brakes. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel to the right.
