Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1968 Oldsmobile 442 Holiday Coupe has been southwest-owned and comes equipped with Cragar wheels, auxiliary gauges, and dual exhaust outlets. It is powered by a rebuilt 455ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Refinished in Black Cherry over a black vinyl interior, this second-generation 442 is now offered with a reprinted owner’s manual, the uninstalled original air cleaner, a center console, a car cover, a spare tire, a jack, and a clear California title in the seller’s name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

This reportedly rust-free 442 was repainted Black Cherry 10 years ago under prior ownership. Exterior features include white accent striping, chrome exterior trim, and a dual exhaust system.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Chrome Cragar five-spoke wheels are wrapped in 10-year-old BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The interior is fitted with Black (trim code 940) vinyl fold-forward bucket seats up front and a bench in the rear, matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. Features include floor mats, a push-button radio, and a custom enclosure for the gear selector. The seller states that some of the piping on the driver's seat upholstery is coming apart.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Vehicle information is conveyed through a 120-mph speedometer, an aftermarket tachometer, and factory gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. The seller notes that the fuel gauge is not working. Aftermarket readouts for the coolant temperature and oil pressure have been added. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 88K miles, which the seller believes to be correct. The true mileage is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The upgraded, period-correct 455ci V8 was rebuilt under prior ownership in 2012. According to the seller, a new ignition was also installed by the previous owner, which means this car now has a separate ignition key. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a numbers-matching three-speed automatic transmission. The tag for it can be seen in the gallery to the right.

UNDERCARRIAGE

The seller notes that the emergency brake does not work.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The sale includes a reprinted owner’s manual, the uninstalled original air cleaner, a center console, a car cover, a spare tire, and a jack.
