Vehicle Story

This 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Catalina is finished in two-tone turquoise and white over a turquoise cloth interior and is powered by a 287ci V8 paired with a 4-speed Hydramatic automatic transmission. The car was originally sold in Missouri at Dude Hinton Pontiac and was later relocated to Arkansas, where it currently resides, and underwent a comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration in 2015. Located in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, this Star Chief is now offered on a clean Arkansas title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in two-tone turquoise and white and was resprayed during the 2015 restoration.  The body straight and free of rust or corrosion, as are the bumpers and other trim.  The hood and rear fins feature ribbed aluminum accents, and the chrome fender skirts are mounted on the rear quarter panels.  The Starchief Custom Catalina was noted for its unique light-up hood ornament, which is operational.

Factory color-matched 15” steel wheels with hubcaps are mounted to whitewall tires on all four corners.  The car is equipped with power steering and power brakes.

The interior is fitted bench seats upholstered in teal cloth and vinyl upholstered, which were professionally redone at the time of restoration in 2015.  The car has a color-matched carpet, door panels dash, and steering wheel, with an inner chrome horn ring and signature Star Chief centerpiece. A factory Chieftain, five-button AM radio, fitted in the middle of the dash, while an analog clock and locking glove compartment are on the passenger side.  The trunk contains a factory floor mat as well as a spare tire in the factory location.

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and accompanying gauges for voltage, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature.  The five-digit odometer reads 24k miles, 250 of which have been added by the seller of five years of ownership.

The 287ci V8 is original to the car and rebuilt during the 2015 restoration. Its equipped with many of its original components, including a four-barrel carburetor, teal valve covers, and power steering pump. Oil changes have been routinely performed during the seller's ownership, and power is sent to the rear wheels through the rebuilt Hydramatic 4-speed automatic transmission

The car shows much much better than an "old restoration". For the last five years it has been kept inside and exercised 15 to 20 miles a month. All of the mechanicals work as they should. All of the gauges, lights, turn signals - everything works. The hood ornament lights up and there are no dings or dents in the car. It starts right up, drives and cruises wonderfully. You would be pleased to own this car. Time to whittle down the collection.

Ad says car had a complete restoration in 2015. That was five years ago and would like confirmation on mechanical aspects of car now. Things could change in a five year period
