OVERVIEW
This restored 1963 Mercury Comet S-22 convertible is equipped with a center console, bucket seats, and new alloy wheels on new tires. Under the hood, the rebuilt 260ci V8 is mated to an upgraded generator and a rebuilt Merc-O-Matic two-speed automatic transmission. Finished in two-tone Peacock Turquoise and white and equipped with a white retractable top over a Turquoise vinyl interior, this first-generation Comet is now offered by the selling dealer with a convertible top boot and a clear Montana title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
This Comet was refinished in two-tone Peacock Turquoise and white as part of a restoration completed under prior ownership. Features include quad headlights, chrome brightwork, S-22 badging, a power-retractable white soft top, and a dual exhaust system. The selling dealer notes that the front inner fenders might have been patched under previous ownership and that the convertible top's mechanical hardware leaks.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
New five-spoke aluminum wheels with polished lips are wrapped in new tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The reupholstered interior is fitted with Turquoise vinyl low-back bucket seats up front and a rear bench, matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. The S-22 package adds a center console to the list of equipment, which includes lap belts, a radio, and a vinyl-lined trunk with a spare tire.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a sweeping 100-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 96K miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The rebuilt 260ci V8 has a Ford Interceptor-branded air cleaner and received a recent tune-up. The charging system has been upgraded from a generator to an alternator. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a Merc-O-Matic two-speed automatic transmission.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
This Comet was previously sold on AutoHunter but is being relisted after the buyer backed out of the transaction through no fault of the seller. The sale includes a vinyl convertible boot.
