Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1965 Volkswagen Beetle was restored in 2019 and treated to a reupholstered interior, a custom center console, a modern audio system, and tinted windows. It is powered by an air-cooled flat-four mated to a five-speed manual transaxle and received service to the fuel system, transmission, and suspension under the seller’s one year of ownership. Finished in turquoise over a gray cloth interior, this Beetle is now offered with uninstalled spare parts, more than $2,000 in service receipts, a short surfboard, and a clear Iowa title in the seller’s name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The turquoise exterior features a roof rack, chrome bumpers, dual mirrors, and rocker panel trim. The seller has posted photos of the car at shows and events in the gallery on the right.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Polished aluminum 15-inch wheels are wrapped in staggered-width tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The interior was refurbished at the time of restoration and has accents that match the exterior. The later-model bucket seats are covered in gray cloth; matching materials continue to the door panels. Features include rubber floor mats, tinted windows, a newer radio system with 10 speakers, lap belts, and a custom carpeted center stack. The seller notes that the horn does not work and that the car does not come equipped with heat or air conditioning.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a 90-mph speedometer and a fuel gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 16,538 miles, which the seller believes to be accurate.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The upgraded, air-cooled flat-four was rated at 95 horsepower, per the seller. Service within the last several months includes the installation of a new fuel pump, gasket, and carburetor, as well as a transmission fluid change. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted five-speed manual transaxle.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Service in September consisted of a chassis lube, the replacement of the right outer tie rod end, and the replacement of the left rear wheel cylinder. The front brake calipers and pads were replaced at the same time.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The sale includes more than $2,000 in service receipts, uninstalled spare parts, and a matching short surfboard.

@Coltbill – Thank you for clarifying the plate. It means it was done right when the original is removed. I thought 65 bugs had the glass covered headlights. It’s still nice. No insult. ...

@hartlbob123 – from what I understand these are the original headlights, it was the year before they had the turn signals on the fenders (I don't have spare headlights) The Vin plate is a replacement to the original added at the time of restoration by the previous owner ...
