OVERVIEW
This 1978 Chrysler New Yorker luxury coupe is powered by a big-block 440ci V8 mated to a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission and sends power rearward to new Coker whitewall tires. Maintenance was recently performed on the suspension, brakes, power steering, and cooling system. Finished in light gray with a matching vinyl top over a gray leather interior, this New Yorker is now offered with service records, the removed original carburetor, and a clear Florida title in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The light gray exterior features a color-matched vinyl roof. Additional equipment includes concealed headlights, bodyside molding, rear wheel skirts, and a dual exhaust system. The seller notes that there is some rust present under the rear quarter panels.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Steel 15-inch wheels with full covers are wrapped in new Coker whitewall tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The interior is furnished with a gray tufted leather split-bench up front and a bench in the rear, matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include woodgrain trim, aluminum door sill plates, a 1995 Chrysler AM/FM/CD radio, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, a clock, and Auto Temp II air conditioning. The seller notes that the windshield wipers and the dash controls for the climate control are inoperative.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for the coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 55,249 miles, although the seller states that the odometer is not working. The true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The big-block 440ci V8 is fed by an Edelbrock 750-cfm carburetor. Recent maintenance included the replacement of the spark plugs, wires, and coil, along with a cooling system flush. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a column-shifted TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission.
UNDERCARRIAGE
The shock absorbers, bushings, and power steering gearbox were replaced under the seller’s ownership. The power brake system received work as well, including the replacement of the front pads, front rotors, and rear shoes.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The sale includes service records and the removed original four-barrel carburetor.
An easily corrected item is the WIDE whitewalls are not period correct. Narrrow yes, but wides?

@PSKET – It appears there is dry rot on both drivers and passenger seats correct? Does the steering wheel replaced. Am seeing rust behind the tire. It looks like "all" the crome is pitted? I'm I seeing correctly that the entire dash board needs replaced some from rot others from use? ...
