1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL

This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL is finished in burgundy over a tan leather interior and is powered by a 4.5-liter V8 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. The car was previously listed with AutoHunter in December 2020 and is being relisted due to a non-paying buyer, through no fault of the seller. Several items have been addressed since it was first listed including repairing the passenger side front bumperette and installation of a new dash pad. Equipment includes accompanying hardtop, fog lamps, power steering & brakes, and air conditioning.  Located in Chula Vista, California, this R107 450SL is now offered on a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in burgundy and has no previous damage or paintwork per the seller.  The car is equipped with a folding soft top as well as a removable hardtop finished to match the body. Fog lamps are mounted upfront to accompany its quad headlights, while the composite rear taillamps are in good condition.  The bumpers are chrome plated with black bumper guards, and the passenger side front bumper guard is in need of adjustment.  The car is missing one piece of trim molding on the passenger side front fender as shown in the gallery as well.

Factory 14” silver Bundt wheels are fitted with 205/70 tires on all four corners. Braking is provided by power-assisted discs both front and rear.

The interior is fitted with tan bucket seats which are free of rips or tears as well as tan carpeting covered by matching carpeted floor mats.  The center console is trimmed with wood paneling that surrounds the automatic climate controls and the radio, as well as the shifter for the automatic transmission.  The radio head unit is an aftermarket AM/FM/CD and there are dual aftermarket speakers in the area behind the seats.  The car was factory equipped with a power antenna.

Instrumentation includes a 180-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer, as well as gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and an analog clock.  The six-digit odometer reads 150k miles, which are original to the car.

The 4.5-liter V8 is original to the car and was factory rated at 180 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine runs with no issue and no leaks are reported.  Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transmission.
