This 1966 Volvo 122S Amazon 5-door station wagon is finished in cream ivory over a dark green vinyl interior and is powered by a 1.8-liter inline-4 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The car has been restored and mechanically rebuilt, and it participated along with about 100 other antique automobiles in the 2,300-mile Great Race in 2019 from Riverside, California, to Tacoma, Washington. Its prior owner was NFL player Garrison Sanborn in Jacksonville, Florida, and was acquired by the seller after winning it in a charity raffle. Located in Jacksonville, Florida, this 122S is now offered on a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in ivory and equipped with chrome bumpers, headlight rings, and windshield surround. The paint was professionally redone prior to the seller's acquisition, and all glass is in good condition with no pitting or cracking. There is a single-exit exhaust, and the car retains its window decals from race participation in 2019. Side-view mirrors are mounted on the front fenders, and an antenna is mounted on the passenger side fender.
Factory 15” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps are mounted to 165/80 tires on all four corners. The tires are near-new according to the seller.
The interior is fitted with green vinyl bucket seats that are splitting along the seams and currently fitted with sheepskin covers. Black rubber mats cover the floor while the door panels are upholstered in dark green vinyl. The lower dash is finished in ivory, matching the exterior, and equipped with a black pad on top and grab handle on the passenger side.
Instrumentation is framed by a black two-spoke original steering wheel with a chrome horn ring and includes a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The 5-digit odometer reads 83,245 though true miles are unknown. The prior title reads 83k miles.
The 1.8-liter “B18” inline-4 has been rebuilt with new pistons and bearings. Prior to the Great Race in 2019, the vehicle’s fuel pump, alternator, and water pump were replaced as well. Additionally, the dual carburetors were also professionally rebuilt, and the ignition was recently replaced. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission with an added overdrive unit.
Additional underside photos are available in the gallery.
The sale includes a factory Instruction Book as well as a warranty and service booklet.
