454-POWERED 1970 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE SS 396

OVERVIEW

This frame-on-restored 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 has been with the current owner for 23 years. It is powered by a rebuilt 454ci V8 engine backed by a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission equipped with a Shiftworks kit and a 2,500-rpm-stall convertor. Features include SS emblems, power front disc brakes, an MSD electronic ignition, bucket seats, an AM/FM/8-track radio, a lowered suspension, and power steering. Finished in Hemi Orange with black stripes over a black vinyl interior, this Chevelle comes from the selling dealer with receipts, service records, parts instructions, and a clear title.

 EXTERIOR – FEATURES

In 2000, the exterior was refinished in Hemi Orange with black stripes. Features include chrome bumpers, a black grille with bright trim, SS emblems, a domed hood, wheel well and rocker trim, color-keyed sport mirror caps, and a rear bumper pad with an SS emblem. EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of 15-inch American Racing alloy wheels is wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. A matching spare wheel is included in the trunk. The selling dealer states that the tires were installed two years ago.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The front bucket seats, rear seat, trim, and door panels are upholstered in black vinyl. Features include power steering and brakes, manual windows, a center console with an automatic transmission shifter, an AM/FM/8-track stereo, and SS emblems. The selling dealer states that the parking brake does not work and the cables for it are not present. Additionally, the wipers and heater do not work; a new heater core has been installed, but the hoses for it have not been put in.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

A 120-mph speedometer, 7,000-rpm tachometer, clock, and gauges for the fuel level, temperature, and amperage are located ahead of the driver. A set of three auxiliary gauges is mounted under the dashboard. The odometer reads 22,839 miles, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a rebuilt 454ci V8 with four-bolt mains and backed by a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission equipped with a Shiftworks kit and a 2,500-rpm-stall converter. Engine bay features include aluminum valve covers with orange accents, an Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake manifold, an 850-cfm Holley Demon four-barrel carburetor, and a chrome air cleaner. The selling dealer states that the engine was sourced from a 1970s-1980s Chevrolet truck, rebuilt in 2005, and equipped with cast iron heads and a flat-tappet hydraulic COMP Cams camshaft. All fluids were changed in January 2023.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Chevelle has an independent front suspension and a 12-bolt solid rear drive axle with 3.31:1 Positraction gears. Braking is provided by power front discs and rear drums. According to the selling dealer, all brake components, including the dual master cylinder, power booster, lines, and Classic Performance Products proportioning valve, are new. In addition, the suspension has been lowered two inches and is equipped with SS heavy-duty sway bars.

The selling dealer charges a $125 document fee in addition to the sale price. They will include receipts, service records, and parts instructions with the purchase of the car.
