For 33 years, this 1938 Ford Phaeton four-door convertible was in the collection of the late Ford restoration specialist Dennis Carpenter of Concord, North Carolina. This fully restored Phaeton is powered by a 21-stud 221ci "Flathead" V8 backed by a three-speed manual transmission. Features include a Columbia two-speed rear differential, Isky performance camshaft, Fenton tube headers, hydraulic brake upgrade, folding cloth convertible top, and simulated woodgrain steel dashboard. Finished in Sheridan Blue with brown vinyl interior, this Phaeton comes from the selling dealer with a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
This Phaeton is one of 1,169 that were manufactured in 1938, which was the last year for this bodystyle. It received a professional restoration by the team of noted expert Dennis Carpenter team in 2013. During the restoration, it was refinished in Sheridan Blue. Features include chrome bumpers, body-colored grille with chrome trim, hood ornament, split windshield with radio antenna, and dual rear-view mirrors. Additional features include glass wind wings, manual folding tan convertible top, tan side curtains, black running boards, and trunk-mounted license plate bracket. EXTERIOR WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of 16-inch Sheridan Blue wheels with V8 hubcaps and trim rings is wrapped in whitewall Firestone 6.00 x 16-inch bias-ply tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The front and rear bench seats are upholstered in brown vinyl. Features include manual steering, upgraded hydraulic brakes, brown vinyl door panels and trim, AM radio, steel dashboard with simulated woodgrain trim, heater, brown front floor mat and rear carpet, and floor-mounted manual transmission shifter.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
The instrument panel features a 100-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level, amps, oil, and temperature. The odometer reads 283 miles, though the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by a 21-Stud 221ci "Flathead" V8 backed by a three-speed manual transmission. Engine features include an Isky performance camshaft and Fenton tube exhaust headers. The engine was rebuilt in 2013.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Phaeton is equipped with a solid front axle and a solid rear-drive transaxle with a Columbia two-speed differential. Braking is provided by upgraded manual four-wheel hydraulic drums. The Fenton headers connect to the dual stainless steel exhaust system and exit to the rear. Additional undercarriage photos can be seen in the carousel to the right.
