OVERVIEW
This restored 1953 Mercury Monterey is powered by a 255cid flathead V8 backed by a Merc-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Features include Offenhauser heads, an Edelbrock dual-carburetor intake manifold, and Borgeson power steering. Finished in red and white over a red and white vinyl interior, this Mercury comes from the selling dealer with the receipt from the most recent service and a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
During the restoration, the exterior was refinished in red and white. Features include chrome bumpers, simulated hood scoop trim, dual rearview mirrors, midbody and rocker trim, and a rear antenna.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of red 15-inch wheels with Mercury full hub caps is wrapped in whitewall radial tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The front bench seat, rear seat, trim, and door panels are upholstered in red and white vinyl. Features include Borgeson power steering, manual brakes, an AM radio, manual windows, and a column-mounted shifter.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
A 110-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and battery are located ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 9,176 miles, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by a 255cid flathead V8 engine and backed by a Merc-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Engine bay features include finned aluminum Offenhauser heads, an aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold with dual carburetors, rebuilt dual carburetors, chrome air cleaners, an external oil filter, and tube exhaust headers. Recent service includes the replacement of both water pumps, the installation of a 12-volt alternator and an electric fuel pump, electrical wiring repair, and an oil change.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Mercury is equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by manual four-wheel drums. A dual exhaust system exits at the rear.
