1970 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE SS 454 LS5 CONVERTIBLE

OVERVIEW

This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 convertible went through a rotisserie restoration under prior ownership and draws power from a numbers-matching LS5 454cid big-block V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes power windows, factory air conditioning, SS wheels, and a dual exhaust system. Finished in red with black stripes and equipped with a black retractable top over a red vinyl interior, this second-generation Chevelle is now offered with a clear title in the seller’s name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The red paint finish and black stripes were applied during the restoration process. Exterior features include SS badging, chrome brightwork, a cowl-induction hood with retention pins, dual mirrors, and a dual exhaust system. The seller notes that the driver-side door lock jams intermittently.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

The 14-inch SS wheels are wrapped in FR70-14 Firestone Wide Oval raised-white-letter tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The front bucket and rear bench seats are upholstered in red vinyl and surrounded by matching door panels and black materials for the remainder of the cabin. Amenities include a center console, an AM radio, power windows, factory air conditioning, and SS badging on the door panels.  

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, 7,000-rpm tachometer, clock, and auxiliary gauges for the amps, fuel level, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 53,000 miles, which the seller states is accurate.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The numbers-matching 454cid big-block V8 has a CRQ code, which corresponds to the LS5 454cid V8 that produced 360 horsepower when new. Maintenance has reportedly been kept up by the seller over the past three years of ownership. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted three-speed automatic transmission.
