OVERVIEW
This 1972 Pontiac LeMans GT hardtop receives power from a rebuilt period-correct 455cid V8 mated to a Muncie wide-ratio four-speed manual transmission. It was sold new at Jim Simmons Pontiac-Buick in Concord, North Carolina, and was put through a ground-up restoration in 2014 by Muscle Car Designs of Joliet, Illinois when the original 350cid V8 and transmission were replaced by the current engine and gearbox. Equipment includes power front disc brakes, power steering, a factory ducktail spoiler, Rally II wheels, and GT graphics. Finished in special-order "Carolina Blue" over a black vinyl interior, this LeMans is now offered with Connecticut registration in the seller's name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The exterior was repainted in the original "Carolina Blue" during the 2014 restoration. This one-off color was a special order as a tribute to the NCAA's North Carolina Tar Heels. Features include black GT side striping, a split grille, quad headlights, chrome brightwork, color-keyed mirror caps, a factory-installed ducktail spoiler, and a dual exhaust system. The seller notes that the accent striping needs to be replaced in certain areas; replacement striping will be included with the car.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Factory PMD-branded Rally II wheels are wrapped in Firehawk Indy 500 raised-white-letter tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The interior is fitted with black vinyl front and rear benches, matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include woodgrain trim, an AM radio, Soft-Ray tinted glass, and power steering.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 42,775 miles.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The rebuilt period-correct 455cid V8 replaced the original 350cid motor and was installed during the 2014 restoration. Recent service includes an oil change as well as the replacement of the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor. Power is sent to the back wheels via a Muncie wide-ratio four-speed manual transmission and a 3.55:1 rear end.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Stopping is performed by power disc brakes up front and drums in the rear.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The uninstalled replacement striping will come with the car. The seller has provided a series of videos showing the exterior, interior, engine bay, and engine running.
