1970 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE SS LS5 454 4-SPEED

OVERVIEW

This restored 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS is powered by the rebuilt numbers-matching LS5 454cid V8 backed by a Muncie M22 four-speed manual transmission. Features include power front disc brakes, power steering, a rear sway bar, a Hurst shifter, a factory AM radio, and a cowl-induction hood. Finished in Lime Green with black stripes over a Metallic Dark Green vinyl interior, this garage-kept Chevelle comes from the selling dealer with an engine rebuild receipt, a piece of the original build sheet, an owner's manual, factory options documentation from General Motors of Canada, and a clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

During the restoration completed in 2006, the reportedly rust-free exterior of this Oshawa-built Chevelle was refinished in the original color of Lime Green (code 43) with black D88 SS stripes. Features include chrome bumpers, a cowl-induction hood, hood pins, a driver-side mirror, wheel opening moldings, SS 454 emblems, and a rear bumper pad with an SS emblem. According to the selling dealer, all the trim has either been polished or re-chromed.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of 15-inch five-spoke Chevelle SS steel wheels is wrapped in 225/70R15 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 radial tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The front bench seat and the rear seat are upholstered in Metallic Dark Green vinyl (code 795). Features include manual windows, power steering, a factory AM radio, a floor-mounted manual transmission shifter, a two-spoke steering wheel with an SS emblem, and green trim. 

INTERIOR – GAUGES

A 120-mph speedometer, clock, and fuel gauge are located ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 32,593 miles, which the selling dealer reports to be accurate.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The numbers-matching LS5 454cid four-barrel V8 was rebuilt in 2003 and has only accrued 500 miles since then. That comes backed by a Muncie M22 close-ratio four-speed manual transmission. Engine bay features include chrome valve covers and a black cowl-induction air cleaner assembly. An oil change was recently completed.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Chevelle was factory-equipped with the F41 suspension package and a solid rear drive axle with a 3.31:1 gear ratio and Positraction. Braking is provided by power front discs and rear drums. The exhaust exits at the rear through dual outlets.
