OVERVIEW
This restored 1968 Ford Mustang California Special has been with the seller for 10 years. It is powered by a rebuilt 289cid V8 bored .030 over backed by a rebuilt C4 three-speed automatic transmission, both of which are reportedly original to the car. Features include a California Special stripe and emblem package, a fiberglass trunk lid with a spoiler, quarter panel end caps, a Shelby-style taillight panel, a Classic Auto Air climate control system, power front disc brakes, and power steering. Finished in Presidential Blue with white stripes over a Light Aqua Crinkle and Dark Aqua Kiwi vinyl interior, this Mustang comes with a Marti Report, engine rebuild receipts and pictures, and a clear title in the seller's name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The California Special Mustangs were produced for the 1968 model year as a limited run of 3,867 West Coast promotional models. This particular Mustang is listed in the California Special Registry. The Presidential Blue (code X) exterior features chrome bumpers, Lucas fog lights, a deluxe hood with upgraded sequential turn signal indicators, white GT/CS accent stripes, dual mirrors, a fender-mounted antenna, California Special emblems, and Shelby-style fiberglass side scoops, trunk lid, quarter panel end caps, taillight panel, and sequential taillights. The seller states that some exterior blemishes can be seen and the driver-side door has dings in it that were touched up under previous ownership.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of 14-inch styled steel wheels with bright trim rings and GT center caps is wrapped in 215/70R14 Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires that were installed in 2020.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
According to the Marti Report, the interior originally had blue standard bucket seats (code 2B); it has been changed to trim code 2K specifications. The front bucket seats and the rear seat are upholstered in Light Aqua Crinkle vinyl with Dark Aqua Kiwi vinyl inserts. Features include Dark Aqua door panels with manual windows, a Deluxe steering wheel, power steering, a floor-mounted automatic transmission shifter, a Classic Auto Air climate control system, an AM radio, and Aqua trim. The seller states that the fuel gauge does not read accurately, the air conditioning needs a refrigerant recharge, the radio does not work, and NOS (new old stock) kick panels have been installed.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
A 120-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level, alternator, oil pressure, and coolant temperature are located ahead of the driver. The rolled-over, inoperative odometer reads 143,609 miles; the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by a rebuilt 289cid V8 bored .030 over and backed by a rebuilt C4 three-speed automatic transmission, both of which are reportedly original. The seller states that rust repair was performed under the battery tray in 2015. In 2020, the engine and transmission were rebuilt; a new power brake master cylinder, Holley Street Avenger two-barrel carburetor, new battery, and new radiator were installed; and the engine compartment was refinished. The seller states that most of the engine and underhood components are NOS parts.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Mustang was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by power front discs and rear drums. In 2015, new steering components, front disc brakes, and front and rear suspension parts were installed. A new dual exhaust system, new rear brakes, and new brake lines were added in 2020.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The seller will include a Marti Report and engine rebuild receipts and pictures with the purchase of the car.

Engine, transmission, fender and rear end are all numbers matching. I cannot verify the body. I don't believe that any body parts have been replaced.
Does this car retain its original, numbers matching components including engine, trans, rear end, body, and fender tag? I realize some have been rebuilt, which is fine. Thx
