OVERVIEW
This 1969 Pontiac Firebird received over $11,500 in upgrades under previous ownership since 2021. It is powered by a rebuilt 1968 Pontiac GTO 400cid V8 backed by a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. Features include a hood-mounted tachometer, power steering, and power brakes. Finished in Expresso Brown metallic and equipped with a Parchment Cordova vinyl top over a Parchment vinyl interior, this Firebird comes from the selling dealer with Pontiac Historical Society (PHS) documentation and a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The exterior is finished in Expresso Brown (code 61) and is equipped with a Parchment Cordova vinyl top. Features include chrome bumpers, body-color Endura headlight surrounds, hood scoops, a hood-mounted tachometer, wheel opening and rocker moldings, and 400 emblems.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of steel Pontiac Rally II wheels with PMD center caps and stainless steel trim rings is wrapped in recently installed BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The front bucket seats, rear seat, trim, and door panels are upholstered in Parchment vinyl. Features include manual windows, power steering, a center console-mounted automatic transmission shifter, and a custom three-spoke steering wheel.·
INTERIOR – GAUGES
A 160-mph speedometer and a fuel gauge are located ahead of the driver. An 8,000-rpm factory tachometer is located on the hood and three aftermarket Sunpro gauges for the coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure are located under the dashboard. The odometer reads 73,000 miles, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The original engine block was replaced by a rebuilt 1968 GTO 400cid V8, which is backed by a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. Engine bay features include chrome valve covers, Hooker headers, an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor with a custom spacer, and a chrome air cleaner lid. Rebuilt cylinder heads and drivetrain, a new high-lift competition camshaft, upgraded valve springs and lifters, new pistons, new rings, new bearings, and a new timing chain were installed during the rebuild process in 2021. Approximately 1,000 miles have been added since then. A video of the engine running can be seen below.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Firebird was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by power four-wheel drums. A three-inch X-pipe dual exhaust system with Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow stainless steel mufflers exits at the rear.
