OVERVIEW
This 1946 Mercury Sedan-Coupe received cosmetic and mechanical restoration in 2012 and is powered by a Chevrolet 350cid V8 mated to a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission. It has been upgraded with a newer dual exhaust system, newer tires, Cadillac-sourced leather seating, power steering, Vintage Air climate control, an aluminum radiator, an independent front suspension, and power front disc brakes. Finished in metallic maroon over a tan leather interior, this Mercury is now offered with build photos, invoices, and a clear title in the seller's name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The maroon metallic exterior was refinished during the restoration in 2012; the seller acquired this vehicle from the late builder's family via AutoHunter in August 2022. Features include chrome bumpers, a color-keyed grille surround, bodyside moldings, and a dual exhaust system that was installed in 2022.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Chrome 15-inch wheels are wrapped in 205/65 front and 245/60 rear tires that were installed in October 2022.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The interior is furnished with Cadillac-sourced power-adjustable tan leather bucket seats up front and a matching bench in the rear. The carpeting and headliner were replaced in 2014. Features include a functional cowl vent, power windows, power steering, a tilt steering column with a Grant steering wheel, three-point seat belts, an AM/FM/CD sound system, Vintage Air climate control, and tinted rear pop-out windows. The battery was replaced in 2023 and is located in the trunk.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level, voltage, oil pressure, and voltage. An aftermarket tachometer is mounted to the center of the dashboard. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 97,600 miles, but the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The Chevrolet-sourced 350cid small-block V8 was installed at the time of restoration in 2012 and features an aluminum radiator with an auxiliary pusher fan, a chrome high-output alternator, custom headers, and chrome valve covers. A new battery was installed in February 2023. Output is transferred to the rear wheels via a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission that was installed at the same time as the engine and an eight-inch Ford rear end.
UNDERCARRIAGE
A Mustang II-style independent setup has replaced the original front suspension. Other equipment includes tubular control arms and two-inch drop spindles. Braking is power-assisted and comes from discs up front and drums in the rear.
