1975 Mercedes-Benz 450SL

OVERVIEW

This 1975 Mercedes-Benz 450SL roadster has been driven 90,462 miles since new and is powered by a 4.5-liter V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. It was manufactured in Stuttgart, Germany in December 1974 and resided in California prior to being relocated to Washington where it has been garage-kept. Equipment includes chrome trim, a removable hardtop, a Becker audio system, and power disc brakes. Finished in Byzantine Gold over a brown MB-Tex vinyl interior, this R107 450SL is now offered with service records, an owner’s manual, spare parts, and a clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The Byzantine Gold (code 422) exterior features fog lamps, chrome bumpers with black guards, quad headlights, pinstripes, bodyside moldings, wheel arch moldings, a power antenna, and ribbed taillights. The retractable cloth top was replaced in 1999 according to the accompanying records. The seller notes that there are some blemishes in the paint, trim, and light fixtures as shown in the photos to the right.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Chrome 15-inch wheels with Mercedes-branded center caps are wrapped in 215/60 Westlake Radial RP18 tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The interior is fitted with brown MB-Tex vinyl bucket seats, matched to the door panels, dash, carpeting, and floor mats. Features include power windows, central locking, power steering, air conditioning, and a Becker Mexico AM/FM/cassette stereo. Wear is visible on the floor mats.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 90,462 miles, which the seller states is a true reading.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The 4.5-liter V8 feeds output to the rear wheels via a console-shifted three-speed automatic transmission. A $3,700+ service in 2011 within the last 5,000 miles included the replacement of the air conditioning compressor, valve gaskets, belts, spark plugs, front subframe mounts, fuel hose regulator, and transmission shifter bushings.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Braking is handled via power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes.
