OVERVIEW
This 1955 Chevrolet Corvette is one of only 180 produced in Gypsy Red and is car #375 of the 700 Corvettes produced for the 1955 model year, which marked the introduction of a V8 engine to the lineup. Under previous ownership, it received a frame-off restoration from Russ Corvette Restoration in Mount Holly, New Jersey. Power is supplied by a 265cid V8 and sent to the rear wheels through a Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission. Features include headlight stone guards, a driver-side mirror, and dual body-exit exhaust outlets. Finished in Gypsy Red and equipped with a tan soft top over a Light Beige vinyl interior, this C1 Corvette comes from the selling dealer with a photo album documenting the restoration process, removable side curtains with a pouch, and a clear title.
EXTERIOR - FEATURES
During the restoration process, the body was sanded by hand, treated with a polyester primer and a black "guide" coat, sprayed with a high-build primer, refinished in the original color of Gypsy Red, and then covered in a clear coat. In addition, body gaps were corrected and a new tan soft convertible top with a plastic rear window was installed. Equipment includes front bumperettes, headlight stone guards, chrome trim, a driver-side mirror, and dual rear body-exit exhaust outlets.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
The 15-inch red steel wheels have polished wheel covers with body-color accents and simulated two-blade center caps. Those come wrapped in a set of whitewall tires.
INTERIOR - FEATURES
The cabin was refurbished with Light Beige vinyl low-back bucket seats, matching door panels and lower dash trim, and tan carpeting. The top of the dashboard is the same color as the body and the top rails on the door panels. Features include manual steering, a half-moon horn ring, a floor-mounted automatic transmission shifter, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a Wonder Bar AM radio, and a passenger-side speaker.
INTERIOR - GAUGES
Vehicle information is displayed on a 140-mph speedometer, a 6,000-rpm tachometer, and readouts for the fuel level, coolant temperature, battery, and oil pressure. The five-digit analog odometer shows 66,918 miles, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Under the front-hinged hood is a Turbo-Fire 265cid V8 that produced 195 horsepower when new. Power is sent to the rear wheel through a Powerglide two-speed automatic.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Corvette rides on an independent front suspension and rear leaf springs. As part of the restoration, the frame was sandblasted and covered with epoxy primer. The selling dealer notes that the frame, bell housing, and transmission have the correct factory markings. Stopping is performed by manual drum brakes.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
A photo album documenting the restoration process and removable side curtains with a pouch will come with the purchase of the car.
