Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1969 Plymouth Road Runner convertible is reportedly one of 760 built in its configuration and was with its previous owner for 33 years. As part of a restoration, it received new body panels, paint, redline tires, and other components. Power comes from a rebuilt, reportedly numbers-matching 383cid V8 and is backed by a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission with larger synchronizers. Features include an Air Grabber hood, power steering and disc brakes, Polygraphite front suspension bushings, and electronic ignition. Finished in Ivy Green Metallic and equipped with a black vinyl power convertible top over a black vinyl interior, this Plymouth comes from the selling dealer with restoration documents, the removed original transmission case, and a clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

In 2019, the body was refinished in the original color of Ivy Green Metallic (code F8). Features include an Air Grabber hood, black V21 Performance Hood Paint, a driver-side rearview mirror with a manual remote, and Road Runner decals. New parts include the:

  • Chrome bumpers
  • Windshield
  • Convertible top pad and rear window
  • Front floors
  • Trunk floor and extensions
  • Rear quarter panels

A walk-around video is available below.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of 14-inch Magnum 500 wheels is wrapped in new 225/70R14 BFGoodrich Silvertown redline radial tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

Originally furnished with White and Black (code H2W) vinyl, the cabin is now equipped with a reupholstered black vinyl front bench seat and a matching reupholstered rear seat surrounded by new black vinyl door panels and black trim. Features include manual windows, power steering, a floor-mounted manual transmission shifter, a rebuilt heater box, an AM radio, and custom shoulder-harness seat belts. New parts include the:

  • Front and rear body wiring harnesses
  • Carpeting
  • Floor sound-damping material
  • Convertible top boot
  • Convertible well liner

INTERIOR – GAUGES

A 120-mph speedometer, a factory 8,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, and alternator are located ahead of the driver. An AutoMeter 8,000-rpm tachometer is mounted to the steering column. The odometer reads 12,649 miles, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a rebuilt and reportedly original 335-horsepower 383cid V8 and backed by a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission with larger synchronizers. Engine bay features include an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, an Air Grabber air cleaner housing and hood plenum, an electronic ignition, and a new power steering pump, steering box, and wiring harness.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Plymouth is equipped with an independent front suspension that has been upgraded with Polygraphite bushings and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by power front discs and rear drums. A dual exhaust system exits at the rear. The following components have been upgraded or replaced:

  • Stainless brake and fuel lines
  • Gas tank
  • Driveshaft
  • Shocks
  • Brakes
  • Wheel cylinders

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Restoration documents and the removed original transmission case will come with the purchase of the car.

The pictures of the undercarriage show some rust appearing near the torx box area of the frame. Also additionally in another photo the speedometer seems to be stuck around 30 mph. Do these issues need repair. Thank you
