1988 Land Rover Defender 90 5-Speed

This 1988 Land Rover Defender 90 is a largely-original, U.K.-market, right-hand-drive vehicle that was legally imported to the United States in 2018 and has undergone mechanical restoration.  Finished in dark gray metallic with a silver roof, power comes from a 2.5-liter 200Tdi 4-cylinder turbo-diesel paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case.    Located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, this Defender is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean CARFAX report on a clean Michigan title.

The vehicle is painted dark gray metallic with a silver roof, the seller indicates that there are some minor chips, bubbling and wear indications consistent with its age.  The bumpers, grille-surround, mirrors, running boards, and other trim are finished in black and the vehicle retains its original badges, emblems, and spare tire cover. A bumper step and a ladder are installed on the rear, and tubular side steps are mounted under the rockers.

Factory black-painted 15” steel wheels are mounted to 31x10.50 Westlake tires on all four corners. Braking is provided by power discs in the front and drums in the rear.

The interior is fitted with black rubber mats on the floor with black vinyl bucket seats and a dark gray dashboard.  Wear is noted on the inside bolster of the driver’s seat.  The rear seats are center-facing benches upholstered in the same vinyl material.  A lockable center console is mounted between the seats and a shelf is mounted under the dash.

Instrumentation includes a 110-mph speedometer as well as accompanying gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level.  The 6-digit odometer reads 115k miles, which are original to the vehicle.    

The 2.5-liter turbocharged 200Tdi inline-4 is original to the vehicle and retains all of its original components.  Power is transferred to all four wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission and a floor-mounted shift lever with a dual-range transfer case. The seller states that a new fuel pump was recently installed.
