1989 PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS AM GTA

OVERVIEW

This 30-years-owned 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA hatchback recently received $4,500 in engine service and new tires and is mechanically sound. It is powered by a numbers matching rebuilt motor 9k miles ago,  L98 5.7-liter V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes removable T-tops, a spoiler, 16-inch aluminum wheels, a Delco radio, air conditioning, and a WS6 suspension. Finished in black over a black cloth interior, this third-generation Firebird is now offered with documentation, an owner’s manual, a CARFAX report, and a clear title in the seller’s name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The black exterior is equipped with pop-up headlights, fog lamps, body-colored trim, a louvered hood, GTA fender badging, removable glass T-top roof panels, and a rear spoiler. There is some surface rust noted.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Gold cross-spoke 16-inch aluminum wheels with polished lips are wrapped in newer Falken Ziex tires with fewer than 500 miles accrued on them.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The 2+2 cockpit is fitted with black cloth bucket seats up front, dual jump seats in the rear, and matching trim for the door panels, dash, center console, and carpeting. Features include power windows, power door locks, a multifunction steering wheel, power steering, cruise control, a Delco radio, and air conditioning.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, an 8,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 160,332 miles. A Not Actual Mileage title was issued in 1993, thus true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The L98 5.7-liter Tuned Port Fuel Injection V8 is equipped with an aluminum intake manifold and was rated at 225 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque when new. It went through a rebuild in 2015, and it more recently received a new fuel pump, battery, and fluids after coming out of storage. Output is directed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.

UNDERCARRIAGE

The WS6 performance suspension package came with GTA models. Stopping comes via power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, and the pads and calipers were recently replaced. An alignment has been performed.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The CARFAX report begins in 1991 and shows accident-free ownership in Kentucky and Illinois. There is a manufacturer safety recall dated 1990 regarding the seat belt buckles, and a remedy is available. The last emissions inspection was performed in 2005.
