OVERVIEW
This award-winning 1970 Dodge Challenger was cosmetically restored 15 years ago and received exterior and mechanical updates within the last five years under current ownership. It draws power from a Magnum 440cid big-block V8 backed by a TorqueFlite 727 three-speed automatic transmission and an 8.75-inch rear end. Upgrades include a shaker hood scoop, 17-inch wheels, a spoiler, Vintage Air climate control, an Edelbrock carburetor, an aluminum radiator, and power front disc brakes. Finished in Hemi Orange and equipped with a black vinyl top over a black vinyl interior, this first-year Challenger is now offered with trophies, service records, engine rebuild documentation and specifications, and a clear title in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The Hemi Orange (code EV2) metallic paint was reportedly first applied around 2009 during an initial restoration and then resprayed in April 2023 under the current seller’s ownership. The car is said to have resided long-term in Texas and Arizona and it reportedly has straight, aligned panels. Features include chrome brightwork, a shaker hood scoop, an antenna, a driver-side mirror, rear window louvers, a ducktail spoiler, and a quad-outlet exhaust system. There are some small paint flaws noted in a few areas. In addition, the windshield is pitted and the driver-side window has a scratch in it.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
American Racing Torq Thrust 17-inch polished aluminum five-spoke wheels are wrapped in 215/50 front and 235/55 rear Goodyear Eagle Sport tires. A set of period-correct 15-inch Rallye wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires are available if desired.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cockpit is furnished with black vinyl high-back bucket seats up front, a bench in the rear, and matching colors for the door panels, dash, headliner, center console, carpeting, and embroidered floor mats. Features include manual-crank windows, Morris Classic three-point safety harnesses, Borgeson quick-ratio power steering, a Vintage Air climate control system, a 500-watt Kenwood audio system with Bluetooth and a 12-inch subwoofer, a fire extinguisher, and a pistol-grip shift lever.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation from Classic Instruments is housed in a woodgrain-look bezel and includes a 140-mph speedometer, an 8,000-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The odometer reads 4,803 miles, which the seller states is indicative of the miles accrued since the completion of the build. The true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The Magnum 440cid big-block V8 replaces the original slant-six powerplant and went through a street/strip-style rebuild in 2019. The following components were installed: a new oil pan, a Hughes Performance high-stall torque convertor, an Edelbrock 800-cfm carburetor, an MSD electronic ignition and distributor, motor mounts, a Milodon 160-degree thermostat, Hedman HTC-coated shorty headers, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, an Edelbrock Victor-series high-performance water pump, a COMP Cams Xtreme Energy hydraulic flat-tappet camshaft, a Champion 26-inch three-core aluminum radiator with dual electric vans, and a new driveshaft. An oil change was performed in May 2023. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted TorqueFlite 727 three-speed automatic transmission and an 8.75-inch rear end with a 3.23:1 gear ratio. There are oil leaks noted from the oil and transmission pans as well as a coolant leak per the seller’s notes.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Stopping is performed by power-assisted disc brakes up front and drums in the rear.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The car will come with trophies, service records, and engine rebuild documentation and specifications from the last five years of ownership.
