Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am sport coupe has been driven 38,347 miles since new and received both cosmetic and mechanical work by Restore a Muscle Car of Lincoln, Nebraska in 2021. It participated in the shop's Bandit Run 2021, an enthusiast rally that pays tribute to the film “Smokey and the Bandit.” Under the hood is a 400cid V8, which is mated to an upgraded TREMEC five-speed manual transmission. Features include a performance camshaft, headers, 17-inch snowflake-style wheels, and air conditioning. Finished in white over a refurbished two-tone white and red interior, this second-generation Firebird is now offered by the selling dealer with build receipts and a clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

In 2021, Restore a Muscle Car touched up the white exterior by repainting the nose along with installing a replacement Firebird hood decal. Exterior features include quad headlights, Trans Am decals, a vented hood, ventilated front fenders, color-keyed bumpers and mirror caps, and a quad-outlet exhaust system.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Snowflake-style 17-inch wheels are wrapped in 255/45 BFGoodrich Comp T/A tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The refurbished cockpit is furnished with white vinyl bucket seats up front, a matching rear bench, and red materials for the door panels, center console, dash, seat belts, and carpeting. Amenities include Trans Am-branded floor mats, an engine-turned aluminum dash face plate, a push-button radio, and air conditioning. The trunk contains a spare tire.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 38,347 miles, which the selling dealer believes is the true mileage.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The reportedly original W72 400cid V8 feeds power to the rear wheels via an upgraded TREMEC TKX five-speed manual transmission and a 3.42:1 rear end. Performance upgrades include a Silver Sport Transmissions (SST) Advanced Friction clutch, headers, a 2.5-inch exhaust system, and a performance camshaft.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Braking and steering are power-assisted.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This Pontiac was previously featured on AutoHunter, but is now being re-listed at a lower asking price. The selling dealer has provided a walk-around video showing the exterior, the interior, and the engine idling. The sale includes build receipts.
