Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This restored 1968 Pontiac GTO Hardtop Coupe has been with the seller for 22 years and has received many new parts including an 0.060 overbore, roller rockers, a new 650-cfm Edelbrock carburetor with an electric choke, and an MSD electronic ignition system. It is powered by the reportedly original and rebuilt 400cid H.O. V8 backed by a new ATI Performance Products TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. Features include power steering, power windows, a tilt steering column, bucket seats, a center console, factory air conditioning, and power brakes. Finished in blue and equipped with a black vinyl roof over a new black vinyl interior, this GTO comes with a clear title in the seller's name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

During the restoration, the reportedly rust-free body was refinished in blue. Features include a color-keyed Endura front bumper, hood scoops, dual rearview mirrors, wheel opening and rocker moldings, a black vinyl roof, and a rear power antenna. The seller states that a few minor scratches are present in the paint, some discoloration can be seen near the front of the passenger-side door, and there are a few minor cracks in the paint on the nose and front bumper, but there is no chipping or peeling present. The following parts have been replaced:

  • Several trim pieces
  • Door and roof rail seals
  • Window seals and sweeps
  • Body bushings and bolts

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of refinished 14-inch Pontiac Rally II wheels with chrome center caps and trim rings is wrapped in new BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

Cabin features include power windows and steering, a tilt steering column, a center console-mounted dual-gate automatic transmission shifter, a rebuilt original AM/FM radio, and factory air conditioning. The seller states that the following parts are new:

  • Upholstery
  • Door panels
  • Window switches
  • Dash pad
  • Rear package tray
  • Carpeting
  • Speakers

INTERIOR – GAUGES

A 120-mph speedometer, an 8,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level and other vehicle systems are located ahead of the driver. The odometer was reset from approximately 86,000 miles to 0 at the completion of the restoration and currently reads 50 miles, which the seller reports to be the mileage on the rebuilt engine and new transmission.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by the reportedly original and rebuilt 400cid H.O. V8 and backed by a new ATI Performance Products TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. When new, the engine produced 360 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. Engine bay features include a new wiring harness, an 0.060 overbore, an upgraded camshaft, roller rockers, chrome valve covers, an aluminum intake manifold, a new 650-cfm Edelbrock carburetor with an electric choke, an MSD electronic ignition system, and ceramic-coated headers. The seller states that when the short block was rebuilt by Booth-Arons Racing Enterprises of Berkley, Michigan, all new internal parts were installed with the exception of the balanced crankshaft and the connecting rods. The heater core has been replaced and the R-134a-compatible air conditioning system received the following new components:

  • Evaporator coil
  • Condenser
  • Accumulator

UNDERCARRIAGE

Stopping is performed by new power drums, new hoses, and new stainless steel brake lines. A stainless steel dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers exits at the rear. The suspension has been equipped with new:

  • Front upper control arm bushings
  • Front sway bar bushings and end links
  • Front and rear shocks

@TrojAngel – Is the PHS included? Any other mechanical issues that need to be sorted (wipers, lights, etc?). Good luck! ...

I don’t have the PHS documentation but it’s like under a $150 to get it just never got it.The only things that don’t work are the factory oil pressure gauge and temp gauge but I hooked up a nice triple gauge as pictured. It is cruising ready as it sits
