OVERVIEW
This award-winning 1937 Dodge Series D5 Business Coupe received fresh paint, a reupholstered interior, and new or rebuilt exterior, cooling system, fuel system, brake, and suspension components as part of a restoration completed in 2005. It is powered by a rebuilt 218cid flathead I6 backed by a rebuilt three-speed manual transmission. Features include a tilt-out windshield, a custom rumble seat, rear wheel skirts, a heater, a Sony AM/FM stereo, a dual-carburetor Offenhauser intake manifold, and a remote oil filter. Finished in beige and mocha brown over a light brown mohair interior, this Dodge comes from the selling dealer with a 1st place car show award and a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
As part of the restoration process, the exterior was stripped to bare metal before being refinished in beige and mocha brown. Features include chrome bumpers, an accessory front grille guard, amber fog lights, a hood ornament, a hinged four-piece hood, a tilt-out windshield, a cowl-mounted antenna, color-keyed rear wheel skirts, a custom brown vinyl rumble seat, and a factory third brake light. The selling dealer states that all of the chrome and stainless trim has been restored or replaced with NOS (new old stock) parts. All of the glass has been replaced with safety glass.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of 16-inch beige steel wheels with chrome dog dish hubcaps and trim rings is wrapped in whitewall bias-ply tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The reupholstered cabin is furnished with a light brown mohair bench seat surrounded by light brown mohair door panels and trim. According to the selling dealer, the door sills, door panels, seat springs, dashboard, headliner, carpeting, and rumble seat area were replaced during the restoration..Features include manual windows and steering, refurbished brake and clutch pedal assemblies, a chrome radio block-off plate, a heater, a floor-mounted manual transmission shifter, custom shifter and emergency brake lever knobs, and a rear compartment-mounted Sony AM/FM radio.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
A 100-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level, amps, engine temperature, and oil pressure are located ahead of the driver. With 10,000 miles added within the last 17 years, the odometer reads 10,430 miles. The true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by a rebuilt 218cid flathead I6 and backed by a rebuilt three-speed manual transmission equipped with a new clutch. Engine bay features include an Offenhauser intake manifold with dual carburetors, chrome air cleaner housings, a remote oil filter, a newer generator, and a newer voltage regulator. A new six-volt wiring harness was installed as part of the restoration. The selling dealer states that the starter, radiator, and heater core have been rebuilt to factory specifications.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Dodge is equipped with a solid front axle with newer tie rods and link ends, and a rebuilt solid rear drive axle with newer bearings and seals. Braking is provided by manual drums. The selling dealer states that the wheel cylinders, stainless steel-sleeved master cylinder, brake shoes, and steel and rubber brake lines were replaced during the restoration. A custom-fabricated dual exhaust system flows from a split-tube exhaust header and ends below the rear bumper. A modern driveshaft with updated U-joints was installed during the restoration along with new fuel lines, front and rear springs, shocks, and shackles. In addition, the fuel tank sending unit was rebuilt.
