OVERVIEW
This 690-horsepower 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe receives power from a 540cid big-block V8 backed by a 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission and a narrowed Ford rear end. It rides on an air suspension and components from Strange Engineering and Chris Alston's Chassisworks, and features a tilt-forward front clip, air conditioning, a Sony audio system, and four-wheel disc brakes. Finished in Candy Apple Red over a custom gray cloth and black vinyl interior, this second-generation Chevelle is now offered with a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The Candy Apple Red exterior features quad headlights, chrome brightwork, a power tilt-forward front clip with a cowl-induction hood, SS badging, color-keyed mirror caps, and side-exit exhaust outlets.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
The American Racing five-spoke chrome wheels are wrapped in staggered-size tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cockpit is furnished with black vinyl and gray cloth upholstery for the front buckets and the two rear seats, as well as matching trim for the door panels, dash, console, carpeting, and floor mats. Features include power windows, power locks, manual rack-and-pinion steering, a late-model leather-wrapped Chevrolet steering wheel, Vintage Air climate control, a leather-wrapped dash, a power trunk release, a B&M shift lever, aluminum pedals, and a Sony audio system. The trunk contains an Optima battery and equipment for the air suspension.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation consists of a cluster of digital gauges that show the speed and fuel level as well as readouts in the center stack for the oil pressure, water temperature, voltage, oil temperature, and transmission temperature. The digital odometer reportedly shows 260 miles, but the total mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 540cid big-block V8 has reportedly been dyno-tested and shown to produce 690 horsepower. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission, a 2,500-rpm-stall torque converter, and a narrowed Ford nine-inch rear end.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Underpinnings include components from Strange Engineering and Chris Alston's Chassisworks, and an air suspension. Stopping power comes from manual four-wheel disc brakes.
