OVERVIEW
This 1973 Chevrolet K20 Custom Fleetside pickup was purchased by the seller in 1972 through the General Motors Overseas Distribution Corporation. It is powered by a Goodwrench 350cid V8 crate engine backed by a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission and a resealed dual-range transfer case. Features include a sliding rear window, dual fuel tanks, a spray-in bedliner, newer Warn front hubs, power steering, and power front disc brakes. Finished in Dark Green over a dark brown and tan vinyl interior, this Chevrolet K20 comes with original purchase documentation, maintenance records, a service manual, a pickup cover, and a clear title in the seller's name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
Originally finished in Glenwood Green, the body is now finished in Navistar's Dark Green (code NAV5924). During the refinish in 2007, the original bed was replaced with another bed, which was subsequently repainted to match the rest of the truck. Features include a white powder-coated front bumper, dual rearview mirrors, a fender-mounted antenna, a sliding rear window, a long Fleetside bed, dual fuel tanks that include an aftermarket tank, a black spray-in bedliner, and a silver rear step bumper. During the refinish. the lower sections of the body were sprayed with bedliner material to prevent rock chips. The seller states that the front bumper was powder-coated in 2007 and some rust is present on and below the doors, which can be seen in the gallery to the right.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of white powder-coated 16-inch wheels is wrapped in 235/85 Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S radial tires. The seller states that new Warn four-wheel-drive front hubs were installed in October 2006.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cabin is furnished with a dark brown and tan vinyl bench seat surrounded by tan vinyl door panels and green metal trim. Features include manual windows, power steering, floor-mounted manual transmission and transfer case shifters, an AM radio, a trailer brake controller, and a black vinyl floor covering.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer and a fuel gauge. The rolled-over five-digit odometer effectively reads 228,960 miles, which the seller reports to be accurate.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The original 350cid V8 has been replaced with a Goodwrench 350cid V8 crate engine, which is backed by a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The engine, an Edelbrock intake manifold, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, and an electronic ignition were installed June 2006; the transfer case and transmission were resealed and new bearings were installed in the transfer case in October of the same year. In November 2022, a new heavy-duty radiator was installed. A clutch repair was completed in April 1994. Engine bay features include black valve covers, an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, and an original-style air cleaner housing.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Chevrolet was factory-equipped with a solid front axle, a solid rear axle with an Eaton locking differential, and four-wheel drive. Braking is provided by power front discs and rear drums. The dual exhaust system exits at the rear. The seller states that new shocks and a steering stabilizer were installed in February 2011. The rear axle seals, brake shoes, brake wheel cylinders, and a U-joint were replaced in May 2005. Five years earlier, the U-joints and ball joints were replaced. A front pinion seal and a front output shaft seal were replaced in September 2000.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The seller will include original purchase documentation, maintenance records going back to 1988, a service manual, and a pickup cover with the purchase of the truck.
