OVERVIEW
This 1973 Chevrolet Mako Shark II-style Corvette coupe is based on a 1973 SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Corvette race car chassis and features a 1965 Corvette Mako Shark II concept car replica body. Under current ownership, it received a 1,700-hour frame-off restoration completed in 2020 by a Corvette specialty facility in Indiana. Power comes from a 454cid big-block V8 mated to a Muncie four-speed manual transmission with a McLeod Racing hydraulic clutch. Features include side pipes, 1980s Corvette seats, Borgeson power steering, Vintage Air climate control, a C4 Corvette rear end, and a Wilwood Hydroboost power disc braking system. Finished in Lunar Blue Metallic and white over a black leather interior, this custom C3 Corvette is now offered with a clear title in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The Lunar Blue Metallic and white gradient exterior was refinished during the frame-off restoration by Corvette Restoration of Elizabeth, Indiana. Features include LED headlights, a custom hood with functional vents, "Mako Shark" emblems, dual mirrors, flared fenders, side exhaust pipes, removable rear window louvers, "MAKO" badging, and slotted LED taillights. The seller has provided images from before and during the restoration process in the gallery to the right.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
The 18-inch front and 20-inch rear American Racing Torq Thrust aluminum wheels with polished lips are wrapped in 255/45 and 275/35 Mickey Thompson Street Comp tires, respectively. According to the seller, the tires were installed in 2020.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cockpit is fitted with black leather bucket seats from a 1980s Corvette along with color-coordinated door panels, center console, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include Vintage Air climate control, power windows, Borgeson power steering, and a radio.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges mounted in the center stack. The odometer reads 29,000 miles, but the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 454cid big-block V8 was rated at 390 horsepower, according to the seller. Features include electric fans, an electric fuel pump, and a newer carburetor. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted Muncie four-speed manual transmission and a McLeod Racing hydraulic clutch.
UNDERCARRIAGE
The SCCA Corvette race car chassis uses a tubular front suspension, a fourth-generation Corvette rear end with custom links, and QA1 coilovers. Stopping power comes from a Wilwood Hydroboost power disc braking system.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
This Corvette previously appeared on AutoHunter in August 2023 (lot number 41776226). It is now being relisted at a lower reserve price than before. A video from the Barcroft Cars YouTube channel below describes the parts and features of this build. The other videos show the exterior, the interior, the engine bay, and the car idling.

Question: I notice a Mecum Auctions "SOLD" key tag in one of the pictures. Did you buy this car from Mecum through John Martin who built it? Why are you selling it now? Just curoius on the history of the car since John built it. Thanks!

@supercruiser – Question: Would a set of 1982 Collector edition wheels fit considering the brake mods? The Collector Edition wheels are very close to what the original Mako Shark II show car had just need to add knock offs to complete the look. ...
These have the factory size disc, so I do anticipate a set of 1982 collectors edition rims fitting on this car. I actually have an 82 collector sitting right next to it.
