Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1961 Chevrolet Corvette convertible restomod receives power from a 383cid stroker V8 mated to a Richmond Gear six-speed manual transmission and a Ford nine-inch rear end. It has been upgraded with power rack-and-pinion steering, an Edelbrock Performer intake, a Holley carburetor, stainless steel headers, a Centerforce clutch, a Jim Myer Racing front suspension, and Wilwood power disc brakes. Finished in red metallic and equipped with a black cloth top over a black vinyl interior, this custom C1 Corvette is now offered with by the selling dealer with an owner’s manual, build documentation, and a clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The metallic red exterior features quad headlights, color-keyed side coves, chrome brightwork, a black cloth retractable top with a plastic rear window, and a stainless steel dual exhaust system.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

The American Racing 17-inch five-spoke polished aluminum wheels are wrapped in 205/50 front and 235/55 rear Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The two-seat cockpit is fitted with black vinyl buckets, matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. Features include power windows, Ford Mustang-sourced power rack-and-pinion steering, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a Vintage Air climate control system, a Sony AM/FM/CD radio, an analog clock, an electronic trunk release, and Corvette-branded vinyl floor mats. The interior was wired with equipment from Ron Francis Wiring. The trunk floor is lined with a vinyl mat.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 71,012 miles. The true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The 383cid stroker V8 originated as a 350cid block that was subsequently bored .030 over and stroked. Equipment includes a Crane Cams camshaft with roller rockers, a windage tray, an Edelbrock Performer intake, a Holley carburetor, stainless steel headers, a serpentine belt system, and a Be Cool aluminum radiator. The drivetrain uses a Centerforce clutch. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted Richmond Gear six-speed manual transmission with straight-cut gears, Strange Engineering axles, and a Ford nine-inch rear end with 3.55:1 gearing.

UNDERCARRIAGE

The front suspension was replaced with hardware from Jim Myer Racing. Stopping is performed by power Wilwood 13-inch disc brakes with dual-piston front and rear calipers.
