This 1982 Volkswagen Vanagon L Westfalia is a pop-top camper powered by a Subaru 2.5-liter flat-4 paired with a 4-speed manual transaxle. The van has been refurbished with an upgraded Propex propane heater, solar power, a custom headliner, and a Bluetooth stereo, and is equipped with sleeping accommodates for four adults. Finished in Ivory with red pinstripes and a white fiberglass top, this Westfalia is now offered from California by an Idaho dealer with a clean CARFAX report and a clear California title.
The body is finished in an Ivory respray with a white fiberglass top and red pinstriping. Solar panels are fixed to the roof and are wired to provide off-grid power, and the canvas siding is reported to be in good condition. Utility hook-ups for shore power and water are located on the driver's side.
Red 14” factory steel wheels wear chrome VW-branded center caps and are wrapped in new 27”x8.50" General Grabber A/T raised-white-letter tires.
The interior is trimmed with multi-colored striped cloth buckets and rubber floor mats up front, a fold-flat rear bench, brown carpeting, and a custom headliner. The living area is outfitted with a swing-out table and multiple storage cabinets. The seller reports that the air conditioning is working properly, and notes that a Propex propane heater and an AM/FM/CD/Bluetooth stereo have been added.
Instrumentation is framed by a 2-spoke steering wheel and consists of an 85-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The 6-digit mechanical odometer reads approximately 153k chassis miles.
A Subaru 2.5-liter flat-4 with 122k miles replaced the original 2.0-liter inline-4 as part of a 2013 conversion. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transaxle.
The CARFAX report shows no evidence of accident or damage, some brake work in 2014, and Colorado registration through June 2020. The sale includes documentation of the engine conversion.
