This 1986 Ford Mustang GT Saleen is a 42k-mile limited-production sport hatchback that is autographed by Steve Saleen and #118 of 201 produced for the year. The car was first titled on September 25, 1987, in Kent, Washington, and passed shortly thereafter to the current owner, who has owned it for over three decades. It is powered by a 200-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. A comprehensive mechanical refreshment was recently carried out involving the fluids, cooling system components, electrical system, brakes, belts, and more. Finished in Bright Red over a gray interior, this Fox Body Saleen is now offered with a clean CARFAX report, owner's books, service records, and a clear Washington State title in the seller’s name.
This low-mileage Saleen is reported to retain its factory-original Bright Red finish, Saleen-specific aero treatment, and dual exhaust. The nose features a lower air dam and a clear lens over the headlamps, the rocker panels have a sport underbody kit with neutral-gradient striped decals, and the rear hatch features a wing spoiler that was specific to this model. The seller reports that the weather stripping is in good condition and well-preserved as a result of long-term storage in the Pacific Northwest.
Factory 16” basketweave wheels with polished aluminum outer lips and Saleen center caps are wrapped in approximately 20-year-old 225/50 BF Goodrich tires. Handling is aided by Koni shock absorbers, an upgraded Racecraft suspension, and recently serviced brakes. The seller reports that the wheel bearings were repacked and greased in 1997, and the entire suspension was subject to a detailed inspection in March 2021, to evaluate condition, lubricate as needed, and ensure roadworthiness after storage.
The interior is fitted with two-tone gray cloth bucket seats with red accent stitching, along with matching door panels, dash, and center console. The dash is branded with a Saleen emblem and has been signed by Steve Saleen of Saleen Automotive. Factory amenities include power windows and locks, air conditioning, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo. The seller indicates that an alarm system and cruise control were added in 1987, and all features are currently working as designed.
Instrumentation is framed by a Momo 3-spoke steering wheel and consists of a series of instruments in Saleen branding, including a 170-mph speedometer, a 7k tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The 5-digit mechanical odometer shows approximately 42k miles, which the seller asserts are true.
The matching-numbers 5.0-liter 302ci High-Output V8 was factory-rated at 200 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. It accumulated about 40k miles during its first 13 years and was subsequently placed into long-term storage, last being driven in 2005. A mechanical overhaul was carried out by a specialty repair facility in Kent, Washington in March 2021, which involved the replacement of the serpentine belt, fuel pump and filter, coolant, and oil and filter. In addition, the electrical system was inspected, the transmission fluid was changed, and the differential was serviced. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission and a factory Hurst shift lever.
The CARFAX report shows no history of accidents or damage. The sale includes owner's books, service records, and documentation identifying the car one of 201 Saleen Fox Body examples.

@JerryK – Thanks for the detailed description. I have to ask that at present this vehicle will start and run perfectly fine, correct? ...
Yes, it does. We have replaced the battery and had the electrical system checked out when we had the fluids, fuel pump, and belts replaced.
