Correct, that was an option in 1961 just like a heater. The buyer of this Thunderbird apparently decided he didn't need/want A/C.

Thanks for asking that question, Bob; the car's window sticker reveals that this Thunderbird's buyer paid $38 to have the car come with an Equa Lock differential (Ford's name for the 1961 Thunderbird's limited slip differential). Bidders may also find interesting the other options this car came equipped with: genuine leather interior, whitewall tires, Magicaire heater, push button radio, tinted glass, windshield washers, outside mirror, 70 amp battery, and $5 for anti-freeze! Isn't it interesting that in 1961 a car bound for a dealer in Alexandria, Virginia had to separately pay for anti-freeze. Thanks again for asking, Bob.

The "F" code on the data plate indicates an equa-lock transmission. Could you verify that this is what is on the car? Also, a photo of the tag on the rear differential would be helpful in verifying the gear ratio. Thank you.

Good morning: this is really an unusual Thunderbird with such very low mileage. We handled the purchase of this car for the current owner 15 years, and 2,600 miles, ago. Now with the odometer showing only 5,302, he has asked us to help him find another enthusiastic owner. The car has been properly cared for and routinely driven (just locally) to keep it in proper running order. This collector focuses on purchasing low mileage vehicles in excellent condition to add to his sizeable collection and then after enjoying them for a number of years returning them to the marketplace as he continues his search for other low mileage cars. Purchasing one of his cars is always an opportunity to buy a properly cared for vehicle that was carefully selected for his collection. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions and thank you for your participation in finding a new home for this Thunderbird. Marty, Classic Car Center
