Vehicle Story

This 1979 Triumph Spitfire 1500 convertible is a very original example that has been owned by the seller for 13 years and shows only 12,400 miles. A recent mechanical refurbishment included the replacement of the hoses, solenoid, and battery. It is powered by a 1.5-liter inline-4 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Finished in brown over a tan cloth interior, this Spitfire is now offered with documentation back to new, a tonneau cover, the original radio, and a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.

This Spitfire is reported to be finished in its original coat of brown paint and has a black cloth retractable top with a plastic rear window. According to the seller, the car has been garaged and covered and recently received a full professional detail. Exterior features consist of chrome bumpers with black guards, Spitfire 1500 decals fitted to the hood and rear deck, and a chrome luggage rack. A tonneau cover is included with the sale.

Factory 13” steel wheels are wrapped in new 175/70 tires. Braking is handled by discs up front and drums in the rear.

The seats retain the original tan vinyl covers with houndstooth inserts with replaced foam cushions, and the door panels are finished in matching vinyl. Amenities include woodgrain dash trim, a heater, and an Alpine AM/FM/CD/MP3 head unit with two additional speakers and a cut-off switch in the glove compartment. The original radio is included with the sale.

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, 7k tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The 5-digit mechanical odometer reads 12,400 miles, which the seller asserts is true and accurate.

The original 1.5-liter inline-4 has received recent maintenance including replacement of the hoses, solenoid, and battery. The seller states that the engine is fully sorted and free of leaks. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission with a console-mounted shift lever.

The sale includes an original bill of sale, owner's handbook, maintenance records dating back to new, a tonneau cover, and the original radio.

@O-E – How much did it cost you to ship the car? ...

I had it hauled by Van Dam Trucking. The owner has since sold the business to another hauler but I can find out who that is if you are interested. I paid $1200 (I have the receipt) from Fargo, ND, to Phoenix, AZ, on July 6, 2007. I used Van Dam because all he hauls is exotic/classic/expensive cars and knows how to protect them plus it's an enclosed van. Regards, Kathleen

@KathleenS – There are several car haulers. I had this transported in an enclosed car hauler from Fargo, ND, to Phoenix, AZ, when I purchased it which I would totally recommend. I have transported cars in an open car hauler and upon arrival they are extremely dirty, inside and out. Barrett Jackson Car Auction uses one called Reliable but there are several carriers available. Regards, Kathleen ...
