Vehicle Story

This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette is a final-year C1-generation example that runs a 360-horsepower solid lifter-equipped 327ci V8 and a 4-speed manual transmission which have covered 5,000 miles since restoration. Converted to run a period-correct fuel-injection system by the previous owner, the current owner and seller points out that while the car is not as it was when it left the factory, it currently drives and handles the way it did when new. Finished in Honduras Maroon over a black interior with a matching soft top, this 1962 Chevrolet Corvette is now offered by its current 13-year owner with the original air cleaner and distributor and a clear Michigan title.

Honduras Maroon was offered on the C1 Corvette from 1960 until 1962, and is contrasted on this example by a black convertible top. Factory steel wheels complete with simulated knock-off spinners are wrapped in narrow whitewall tires while factory badging and other exterior appointments remain unchanged from stock. Fuel-injection insignias have been added below the wings.

Dual exhaust tips are visible behind the rear wheels and the quad tail light design, which debuted for the previous model year.

The interior contains black upholstery on the seats and door panels which match the carpet and dash. The center-mounted 6,500-rpm redline tachometer is framed by a large sweeping 160-mph speedometer housed in a color-matched binnacle which is flanked by gauges displaying coolant temperature, amperage, oil pressure, and the fuel level.

The steering wheel is the factory drilled three-spoke design and the 4-speed manual transmission is operated by the floor-mounted shift lever just behind the clock.

This Corvette is powered by a 327ci Chevrolet V8 in the 360-horsepower configuration, meaning it uses solid valve lifters and was previously fueled by a single 4bbl carburetor. According to the seller, the previous owner converted the engine to run a period-correct Rochester fuel-injection system, which was offered starting in 1957, and raised horsepower from 340 to 360 for the 1962 model year 327. The original air cleaner and distributor have been retained. A 4-speed manual transmission routes power rearward and the seller lists 5,000 miles as having been covered since restoration.
