Vehicle Story

This 1998 Toyota Celica GT convertible is an unmodified sixth-generation example that was originally sold on May 29, 1998 in Hooksett, New Hampshire, which has resided in the same region with the same owner since, receiving consistent maintenance from a specialty repair facility in Manchester. Powered by a 2.2-liter inline-four paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle, maintenance includes a timing belt service was performed within the last 5,000 miles. Finished in Super White with a newer black retractable top over a dark gray cloth interior, this Celica is offered with a car cover, a clean CARFAX report, and a clear New Hampshire title in the seller’s name.

This Celica was purchased new by the seller and is reported to have been garage-kept and summer-driven ever since, retaining its original Super White (040) paint over a rust-free body that was professionally undercoated. The contrasting power-operated black convertible top has been replaced and is in excellent condition, with new rear glass and new motors having been installed at the time. Equipment includes factory fog lamps up front, color-matched Super White sideview mirrors and door handles, and a trunk-mounted accessory spoiler with integrated LED brake lamp. A Class II 1.25" bicycle hitch is also installed at the rear.

Factory 15” five-spoke aluminum wheels are wrapped in 205-section tires, with new units up front and a set ready for replacement in the back.

The interior is fitted with dark gray cloth bucket seats with patterned inserts and matching door panels, dash, and upholstery. Amenities include air conditioning, cruise control, power convenience options, and variable-speed windshield wipers. The seller indicates that the driver side rear window is misaligned. The stereo system is a factory Toyota AM/FM/CD head unit, and the center console doubles as an armrest with storage beneath it.

Instrumentation includes a 150-mph speedometer, an 8,000-rpm tachometer, and accompanying gauges for coolant temperature and fuel. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 159,000 miles, which is accurate per the seller who has owned the vehicle from new.

The 2.2-liter 5S-FE DOHC 16-valve inline-four was rated at 135 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 145 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 when new, and has received comprehensive maintenance history over its lifetime which is corroborated by over 60 entries on the CARFAX report. The timing belt was replaced at 154,000 miles by a Toyota specialist, and additional records show a service of the cooling system, air filter replacement, and oil change in November 2016, a battery replacement in 2015, and undercoating application in 2013. Recent service includes a oil change in February of 2021. Power is transferred to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transaxle operated by a console-mounted shift lever.

Photos showing the undercoated underside are available in the gallery.

The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage on record. This Toyota Celica passed a New Hampshire inspection in April 2021, and sale includes a car cover.
