This 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 is one of 2,802 Indy 500 Pace Truck editions and has been with the seller for 11 years. Power comes from a rebuilt 5.9-liter Chrysler Magnum V8 which originally boasted 15 more horsepower than standard, which is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Interior amenities include the SLT trim package with leather upholstery, while a dual exhaust is also fitted. Finished in GTS Blue with white stripes over a gray leather interior, this Ram 1500 is offered with a CARFAX report, receipts for the engine rebuild, never-installed Indianapolis Motor Speedway decals, and a clear Georgia title in the seller’s name.
This Ram 1500 is a two-wheel-drive short bed that is painted GTS Blue with white accent stripes which are a nod to the Dodge Viper that paced the 80th Indianapolis 500 in 1996. It is one of 2,802 produced and features color-matched bumpers, integrated fog lamps, a tonneau cover, and special graphics. This example was professionally repainted, although it is said to currently show varying blemishes. The seller notes that the Official Pace Truck decals are included but were never installed and that one of the small versions is missing. A spray-in bed liner has been added, as well as tubular nerf bars which function as side steps. Ram 1500 Pace Trucks like this were originally equipped with a "sport-tuned" exhaust with a single tailpipe exiting behind the passenger rear tire, but this example runs a system with dual tips.
Factory 17” cast-aluminum five-spoke wheels were part of the Pace Truck treatment and come wrapped in General raised-white-letter tires.
The interior of all Indy 500 Pace Trucks came equipped with SLT Laramie trim-level amenities, including power-operated gray leather bench seats and matching door panels, dash, and carpeting. A fold-down center console provides an armrest as well as storage. The seller notes that the dash is cracked and currently covered by a cap and carpeted mat. This Ram 1500 is equipped with power convenience options, cruise control, and an aftermarket Blaupunkt Bermuda CD head unit.
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 6,000-rpm tachometer, and accompanying gauges for fuel level, voltage, and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 113k miles, which are original to the chassis according to the seller.
The 5.9-liter Magnum V8 is said to be original to the vehicle and was rebuilt in 2010, with receipts included for the work performed. The seller states that the majority of routine maintenance was done by the owner and that the pickup is in sound running and driving condition. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission, and the rear axle has a 3.55:1 ratio. Dodge Ram 1500 Indy 500 Pace Trucks like this were originally rated at 245 horsepower, 15 more than the standard 5.9 Magnum V8.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The sale includes receipts for the motor rebuild and a box containing the official Indianapolis Motor Speedway decals.
