AUTOHUNTER ADMIN NOTE 8/22/2025 at 10:44 AM AZ TIME: Listing updated to reflect that this car originally came with a six-cylinder engine according to the VIN

Clarification on here that I recently discovered today after talking to family and my mechanic who has worked on the car for the past 15 years. This car does not have the original engine. I learned the car was built in Kansas City and come off the assembly line with a V6 engine. The original owner had the car for less than 5 years before it went to my wife's uncle and then her father and then me. So our family has owned it approximately 55 years out of the 61 years. Our family has never changed the engine. We could not find any records that we have kept on the car that the engine has undergone any catastrophic failure either. We believe the original owner changed it to a V8 soon after buying it because that was what most people wanted in the 60's. We think the engine was changed out of personal choice by the original owner. Sorry for any confusion.
Good morning and welcome! My name is Kevin and this is the first time we have attempted to sell our Skylark to a national audience. Just a little background, I have owned it for nearly 20 years. Prior to me my father-in-law owned it for about 30 years. He owned three classic cars at one time. Prior to him his brother owned it from him for about 10 years. Finally, his brother bought it from the first owner who had it for less than 5 years so there have only been 4 owners and it has been in our family for 50+ years. The 74,000 miles or so are original. In my 20 years, we have been put less than 4000 miles on it. We keep it in our garage year round and winterize/cover it from October to April. So we drive it to special occasions in summer only. We have never driven it on the freeway. Around 6-7 years ago we started working on the process to restore back to its original look when it came off the assembly line. I first took it into mechanics to assess and fix anything involving mechanical parts including the engine, transmission, steering, brakes, radiator, etc. Once that was done, I hired someone to remove all the rust on the vehicle. That took about 3 years. In the past two years I took it to a reupholstery shop and replaced the seat covers, carpet, door panels, and put on a new convertible top. Finally I had it painted to its original color last year. We have loved this car and taken good care of it. We have receipts kept on it that go back to the 80s and 90s. We have wanted to make the car look and feel as original at it was as possible. Let me know if you have questions and I will try best to answer them in a timely manner. Thanks!
