This 1974 BMW Bavaria 3.0 S is finished in Sienabraun metallic over a tan leather interior and is powered by a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder paired to a three-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle was acquired in 2006 by the seller, it was found in a garage in Lancaster, PA. Previously owned by an elderly woman, the car had been stored for an unknown length of time and discovered in highly original condition. To get the vehicle running, a BMW specialist flushed all the fluids, replaced the battery, and installed four new tires. When found, the odometer showed 39,600 miles, the seller has added less than 6,000 miles since then. It is now offered with a clean Massachusetts title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in its original shade of Sienabraun metallic (009) and features quad headlamps, factory chrome trim, and federally-mandated 5 mph bumpers front and rear. The paint is believed to be mostly original, with the seller stating a dent on the left rear corner was repaired under their ownership. The left rear door shows signs of paintwork that is thought to be caused by the previous owner.
Factory 14” steel wheels are fitted the original BMW hubcaps, newer 195/70-14 tires have been installed. The Bavaria, sometimes also referred to as the BMW E3, shares the same engines, transmissions and suspension components as the CS coupe models of the era. Though they ride on the same style chassis, the Bavaria utilizes a longer wheelbase to accommodate for increased rear passenger room.
The tan interior is equipped with manually adjustable leather bucket seats featuring perforated inserts and matching tan piping. The interior is said to mostly original with new seat covers being installed shortly after the seller acquired the car. The carpet and headliner is said to be free of stains or tears and in excellent condition. Though equipped with all the components for factory air conditioning, the system is currently inoperable. Additionally, the seller notes the windshield washer and dashboard clock as inoperable. The black center console houses vents, blower motor, and controls for the air conditioning and heating systems as well as the shifter for the automatic transmission.
The instrumentation cluster features a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,000 rpm redline. The five-digit odometer indicates 44k miles which is stated as the original mileage on the title, approximately 6k has been added by the seller. Being an original US market car, the dashboard units are in imperial and features indicator lights for the generator, oil level, high beams, emergency flashers, low fuel, and parking brake. The original 4-spoke steering wheel shows no signs of excessive wear or cracking in the center section or spokes, a simulated wood grain and leather cover was added to protect the rim.
The 3.0-liter “M30B30V” inline 6-cylinder was factory-rated at 177 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. While BMW equipped the car with twin Zenith carburetors, the seller has replaced them with twin Weber units under the original air cleaner. Since acquiring the car in 2006, all service work has been performed by an independent BMW mechanic and it has always been parked in an enclosed garage.
Additional photos of the undercarriage are shown in the gallery.
Included in the sale are a car cover, the original tool kit, owner’s manual, and factory service manuals. Numerous spare parts such as an oil dipstick, ashtray, two hubcaps, rear passenger door glass, and various filters are included as well. Located in Duxbury, MA, this 1974 BMW Bavaria is offered for sale on a clean Massachusetts title in the seller's name
@chart75 – I did see those pictures but was looking more for the floorboard pics. ...
Sorry. I didn't get an alert about your comment. The floorboards are solid. Tell me what view you are looking for and I'll see if I can get it. Really, the body is in VERY good shape.
