Vehicle Story

This 1979 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce is described as a three-owner example that was treated to a 22-month restoration at the hands of Alfa Performance Center in Newport Beach, California around 2014. Featuring backdated stainless-steel bumpers, a woodgrain steering wheel and shift knob, a modern stereo system, and a rebuilt suspension, power comes from a rebuilt 1,962cc SPICA fuel-injected twin-cam four paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. With the seller for seven years who describes long-term California ownership, this Spider is finished in Alfa Romeo Red over a black interior and is offered with supporting documentation and on a clear California title in the owner's name.

This Spider Veloce is finished in Alfa Romeo Red (514) which is offset by a black cloth retractable top, and the car was treated to what's described as a no-expense-spared full restoration by Alfa Performance Center in Newport Beach, California around 2014. Originally manufactured during February of 1979 with California emissions and reported to have resided in California for most of its life until being relocated to Michigan, a minor accident in the 1980s was repaired under prior ownership and there is some evidence of the fix on the frame according to the seller. Front and rear bumpers have been backdated to an earlier and less obtrusive stainless steel design.

Factory 14” Cromadora wheels are wrapped in 185-section tires. The seller reports the suspension as having been rebuilt.

The interior is trimmed with professionally-reupholstered black vinyl bucket seats and a matching dash, door panels, and carpeting which is protected by floor mats. Wood accents are used for the rim of the three-spoke steering wheel and shift knob. A modern AM/FM/CD stereo has been installed in the dash, with aftermarket speakers located behind the seats. The seller says all electronic components are in working order.

Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, an 8,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges at the top of the center stack for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 21,845 miles, which the seller asserts are original.

The drivetrain including the engine, transmission, and differential was fully rebuilt at the time of restoration. Power comes from the car’s original 1,962cc twin-cam eight-valve inline-four which uses SPICA mechanical fuel injection. The seller describes a rear main seal leak which leaves a quarter-sized amount of oil on the ground each week. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission with a console-mounted shifter. Output when new was 111 horsepower at 5,000 rpm with 122 pound-feet of torque at 4,000.

Photos showing the underside are available for viewing in the carousel.

The seller states the car has current California registration through 2023 and has passed smog.

you mention an accident in the 80s, and some indication on the frame. What damage occurred , what info is on the frame, and what does the info say about the accident. Also, has Alfa Performance prepared a statement of work on the engine. Thank you
