This 1968 Camaro has been confirmed as a genuine Z/28 through its factory-original drivetrain and supporting codes. Under the hood is the original 302ci small-block V8 stamped with the MO suffix, which was exclusive to Z/28 models in 1968. That engine is backed by the correct Muncie 4-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt Positraction rear end with 3.73 gears, both consistent with Z/28 specifications. The car retains its multi-leaf rear springs and standard front disc brakes, further aligning with the Z/28 package. Its trim tag decodes as Style 12437 (sport coupe), built at the Los Angeles plant (LOS) during the 2nd week of February 1968 (02A), originally finished in Tuxedo Black with black bucket seats (712 interior code). An original black Z/28 is exceptionally rare, making this example even more desirable among collectors. These details, combined with the drivetrain stampings and factory hardware, provide strong technical evidence that this Camaro is a true and numbers-matching Z/28 rather than a later tribute or clone. If desired, I would have no hesitation in having an expert such as Jerry MacNeish verify its authenticity, as the documentation and codes fully support this being a real Z/28.
