This 1978 Fiat 124 Spider was manufactured during December of 1977 and has remained with its original owner since new. Powered by an 84-horsepower 1.8-liter inline-four paired with a 5-speed manual and a non-catalyzed exhaust, equipment remains largely unmodified from stock including items such as the steering wheel, radio, and mechanical systems. Finished in orange with a black top over beige interior, this 1978 Fiat 124 Spider is offered on a clear title in the seller's name.
The exterior finish is a shade of Fiat's factory-offered orange color, and the body is contrasted by the black convertible soft top which includes a plastic rear window, and bumpers which wear rubber impact strips front and rear. Tom Tjaarda designed the 124 Spider while at Pininfarina, and badges representing the design house are affixed in their factory positions aft of the doors. The passenger side rear end wears an 1800 badge and the driver's side is fitted with a badge from the original selling dealership, Roger Mauro Fiat of Denver, Colorado.
Photos capture the paint finish as containing various flaws including dullness and assorted dents, chips, and scrapes which are concentrated around the rear fenders. The seller states there is no corrosion or rust. Wheels are a set of factory items which wear Fiat covers, and tires are described as four years old.
The cabin is upholstered with beige material on the seats and door panels, while red-orange carpeting lines the footwells. The instrument panel wears wood trim and the factory radio resides in front of the shifter and below switchgear and warning lights. The shifter is the factory design, and so is the wood-rimmed two-spoke steering wheel. The steering wheel and dash are pictured as containing a crack and the driver's side footwell shows wear.
Veglia Borletti gauges are mounted in the instrument panel and consist of an 8,000-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and a water temperature gauge. There's also a quartz clock, and the five-digit odometer integrated within the speedometer shows 41k miles.
The 1.8-liter eight-valve Fiat four-cylinder had an output of 84 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 90 pound-feet of torque at 2,800 when new and sends power to the rear axle through a 5-speed manual transmission. The timing cover and fan are yellow factory-style items and a battery dated April of 2021 is currently installed in the trunk. All maintenance performed to the car has been carried out by a shop specializing in the marque.
Additional photos capturing the underside are included within the carousel.
A shop manual is included in the sale.
