Vehicle Story

This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air two-door sedan has reportedly been treated to a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment, complete with a repaint in Powder Blue and installation of a 383ci stroker V8 with Edelbrock valve covers and aluminum heads. A 4-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear and wheels are a set of 15” American Racing items. Outfitted with aftermarket gauges, billet interior trim, and a reupholstered black and gray interior, this Bel Air is offered on a clear New Jersey title in the seller’s name.

This Bel Air comes from the first year of Chevrolet’s famed “tri-five” series and is a two-door sedan with a B-pillar posts that are reportedly rust-free. The seller indicates that the body was professionally resprayed in Powder Blue as part of a restoration, and the exterior design is accented in stainless-steel and chrome trim for the front and rear bumpers with guards, a “jet bird” hood ornament, a billet-style grille, side moldings, and dual exhaust outlets beneath the rear bumper.

Chrome American Racing 15” wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires in a staggered setup, with 215-section rubber up front and 255s in the rear. Braking is handled by power front brakes, and the steering system uses a rack and pinion.

Interior upholstery was re-trimmed in black and gray with both vinyl and cloth material used. The front seating configuration is a full-width bench with a split backrest that folds forward to access the rear. The door panels are upholstered in matching fabric, and black carpeting is present on the floor. The dash is color-matched in Powder Blue and has accenting billet trim pieces on the instrument panel, and the steering wheel is a custom aluminum unit mounted to a column finished in chrome. An AM/FM/CD head unit is installed, with speakers mounted in the deck behind the rear seatback. The trunk is lined in black vinyl and has a spare tire-mounting location, though no spare is included.

The sweeping factory speedometer is gone in favor of aftermarket gauges which have taken its place on the instrument panel, while a tachometer is fitted to the dash.

The 383ci stroker mounted within the matte black engine bay runs aluminum heads and is fueled by a 650-cfm Edelbrock carburetor beneath a chrome air cleaner assembly with airbrushed flames and beside chrome valve covers of the same manufacturer. Power is transferred to a Ford 9" rear axle which runs 4.11:1 gearing by a 4-speed manual transmission.
