This 1988 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.6 has been owned in California for 30 years and has covered 204k miles since new according to its vehicle history report. Powered by a 2.6-liter M103 SOHC, 12-valve inline-six mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, equipment includes retrofitted European market headlamps, a Becker Grand Prix cassette deck, and a $4,700 service was performed in July of 2020 by a Mercedes-Benz specialist. Finished in Signal Red over a Palomino leather interior, this 1988 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.6 is offered with repair and maintenance invoices, a checklist from an inspection performed by York's Motorwerke in May of 2021, and is offered by the selling dealer.
Paint is factory-offered Signal Red, but the CARFAX vehicle history report documents an accident as having occurred during February of 2008, and the pre-purchase inspection checklist notes damage to the finish on the driver's side of the trunk. Exterior equipment remains unmodified with the exception of European market headlights which have taken the place of the included original items.
Wheels are a factory-offered set of 15" five-lug light alloy items wrapped in a matching set of Michelin Defender 185-section tires.
The interior is upholstered with Palomino leather and the black shifter for the 5-speed manual sprouts from the wood-trimmed center console. The dash is pictured as being free of cracks and a Becker Grand Prix tape deck is fitted in the center stack below the climate controls. Air conditioning is described as operative and items such as the toolkit, jack, spare tire, and an array of owner's manuals and literature are included. A power-operated sunroof is equipped and there are headrests for the rear occupants.
A four-spoke airbag steering wheel fronts the instrument cluster which contains a 7,000-rpm tachometer and a 140-mph speedometer, along with gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, fuel economy, and a clock. The six-digit odometer shows 204k miles, the same figure which appears on the CARFAX vehicle history report.
Beneath the hood sits the 2.6-liter version of the Mercedes-Benz M103 SOHC, 12-valve inline-six which uses Bosch CIS and had an output of 158 horsepower and at 5,800 rpm and 162 pound-feet at 4,600 when new. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual which uses a conventional shift pattern. In July of 2020, a service totaling $4,700 including replacement of the front struts, fuel injectors, steering linkage, engine and transmission mounts, all fluids and filters, and a front brake service among more was performed by York's Motorwerke, an independent Mercedes-Benz specialist shop in Walnut Creek, California.
Photos with the vehicle on a lift reveal various replaced components and parts underneath.
A pre-purchase inspection was performed in May of 2021 by York's Motorwerke, and a scan of the corresponding checklist can be viewed in the image carousel. Videos are available for viewing below.
