Vehicle Story

This 1972 BMW 2002 Touring was first sold in Europe and later imported to Colombia where it was subsequently restored to original specification according to the seller. Previously owned by a member of BMW Club Clásicos Colombia, the car is accompanied by two sets of keys and nearly 70 pages worth of documentation from throughout its life including invoices, receipts, historical certifications, and inspection documentation. Finished in Fjord Blue metallic over a black interior, power comes from a 2.0-liter M10 SOHC four-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed manual, and maintenance includes an oil service, replacement of the spark plugs, valve cover gasket, and intake gasket, along with a carburetor tune. This 1972 BMW 2002 is offered with import paperwork and posters and a calendar it was featured in.

The touring body style of the BMW 2002 was offered from 1971 until 1974 with 25,827 units produced. The model was never sold in the US, and this example is finished in a respray of factory-offered Fjord Blue metallic which was performed as part of the restoration. Narrow bumpers with black trim are correct for the model year, and a set Hella of driving lights have been fitted to the front end. BMW roundels are present on the hood and hatchback while 2002 Touring lettering is affixed to the rear end. Design elements include round tail lights which were used throughout 2002 Touring production. The windshield has stickers from Colombian rally events and a BMW Club Clásicos Colombia static cling is affixed to the driver door window. Club BMW 2002 Colombia stickers are also present on the rear end and rear glass.

Multi-spoke factory-offered wheels are wrapped in Hankook Kinergy ST 205-section tires all around. A spare 165-section tire mounted on a matching wheel is stowed in the trunk along with the jack and associated tools.

The black interior is reported to be original and unrestored and follows original equipment specification including the three-spoke steering wheel, shifter, and switchgear. Photos of the dashboard show cracks which have been taped. A Blaupunkt AM/FM radio is mounted in the center stack and the sunroof is operated by crank, along with the windows. Carpeted floor mats line the front footwells and there's seating for four. Rear seats fold forward to allow for greater cargo capacity.

The instrument cluster is home to a 220-kph speedometer and an 8,000-rpm tachometer, along with a fuel gauge and a temperature gauge.

The 2.0-liter SOHC, eight-valve M10 four-cylinder engine had an output of 99 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 116 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 when new, and was originally fueled by a single Solex 40PDSI carburetor. The engine sits beneath the K&N style air cleaner and an Interstate battery is mounted within the bay. Power is sent to the rear axle through a 4-speed manual transmission and the underside of the hood wears factory-style insulation pads.

This 1972 BMW 2002 Touring is accompanied by two sets of keys and nearly 70 pages worth of documentation from throughout its life including invoices, receipts, historical certifications, and inspection documentation, along with a Liqui Moly calendar and posters in which it has been featured.
