Vehicle Story

This 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe is described as a restored coupe with modern suspension and braking upgrades along with a reupholstered interior. Power comes from a crate 350ci V8 mated with a rebuilt Saginaw 4-speed manual transmission, additionally a newer stereo system housed within a custom under-dash enclosure. Finished in white PPG paint over a red vinyl interior, this coupe is offered by the selling dealer.

The Deluxe and Special Deluxe had two production spans, encompassing the 1933–1932 and the 1946–1950 model years. This Special Deluxe coupe is finished in white PPG paint and was reportedly subject to an independent frame-off restoration. The majority of the body is stated to be original, although the rear fenders, decklid, hood, and passenger side A-pillar were repaired or replaced. Brightwork including the bumpers, window surrounds, and grille are reported to be in good condition. Polished dual exhaust finishers exit at the rear beneath the bumper.

Five-spoke 15” Jegs wheels with polished lips are wrapped in 215-section Futura GLS Super Sport tires. The suspension is comprised of Fatman Fabrications dropped spindles with Pete & Jake’s shocks, with coilovers in the rear. Power steering has been added, and the front brakes were sourced from a Ford Explorer.

The all-red interior contains reupholstered vinyl buckets up front and a bench in the rear, color-matched to the door panels, dash, headliner, and carpeting. A centrally-located chrome bezel on the dash holds select auxiliary gauges, and a custom enclosure mounted beneath the dash houses a modern JVC AM/FM/CD head unit. The seller advises that the windshield wipers and blower motor are currently inoperative.

Instrumentation is housed within a chromed bezel and features a 100-mph speedometer, an oil pressure gauge, and a fuel level gauge, although the seller states that the speedometer and fuel level give inaccurate readings. Additional aftermarket readouts for voltage and coolant temperature are mounted to the center dash, and an aftermarket Bosch 8,000-rpm tachometer has been installed. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 92k miles; total chassis mileage is unknown.

Power comes from a small-block Chevrolet 350ci V8 crate engine sourced from Summit Racing that is fed by an 18-gallon fuel cell mounted in the trunk. The clutch system features a Novak hydraulic setup with a Wilwood master cylinder. Power is channeled to the rear wheels via a rebuilt Saginaw 4-speed manual transmission and a positraction 8.8 Ford rear end with a 4.11:1 gear ratio.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

@ozikboy – Everything looks perfect... except for the Cardinals emblem.... Would have to replace it with SF Giants!!!!! lol---- All joking aside ... I would bid if I had more room to park it ...

It is a great car! The color combo works great locally, but white with red interior is timeless! ;) Thanks!
