This 5k mile 1996 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra convertible is finished in Laser Red Metallic over black leather interior. Built by the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT) on June 17th, 1996, this Cobra is #2416 of 2510 built for the ’96 model year. Showing 5K original miles, it is 1 of 362 SVT convertibles made in its respective color combination. Power derives from a 4.6-liter V8 DOHC engine mated to a T-45 5-Speed manual transmission. Delivered new from Berge Ford in Mesa, AZ, the car has been registered only in Arizona since new and is now offered with two factory keys and remotes, factory literature, original window sticker, service records, a clean CARFAX report and a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.
Finished in Laser Red Metallic (E9), the Mustang features styling cues specific to its SVT Cobra heritage. Notables include a redesigned front fascia with integrated fog lights in the front bumper, a rear bumper with molded Cobra script, a rear spoiler and unique badging. Paint is said to be original and a black canvas power soft-top is also shown, along with an integrated heated rear glass windshield.
Factory 17x8” alloy wheels shown are free of blemishes and are wrapped in Cooper Zeon RS-3 tires measuring 245/45 on all four corners. The original tires were removed due to age but do come with the car. Braking is handled by 13” rotors up front with Cobra engraved twin-pistol calipers and 11.65” rears with single piston calipers.
The interior is finished in black leather upholstered seats (4J) with color-matched carpets and black upper trim on the door panels and dashboard. Featured equipment includes a Mach 460 CD stereo, air conditioning, power accessories, cruise control and dual front air bags. An extra set of OEM floormats are included in the sale.
Instrumentation incudes a 160-mph speedometer, a 6,800-rpm redline tachometer, along with gauges for fuel level, oil temperature, voltage and coolant temperature. The analog odometer shows 5,446 miles.
Powered by a 4.6-liter V8 DOHC, the engine features all-aluminum construction, dual overhead cams, and variable intake runners. Output when was rated for 305 horsepower at 5,800-rpm and 300-lb ft of torque at 4,800 with an advertised 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds and a standing quarter-mile in 13.99 seconds at 101.6 mph. Each engine was hand-assembled by two-person teams at the Ford plant in Romeo, Michigan. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Borg Warner T-45 5-speed manual transmission.
The underbody and engine bay show minimal signs of use, additional undercarriage photos can be viewed in the gallery.
The clean CARFAX report shows two owners, both of which local to Arizona. A recent oil change was performed on the car in anticipation of its sale.
Yes. It is a reserve auction.
Is this a reserve auction?
The Cobra was photographed last month by Hemmings Motor News for a buyers guide article.
@Rob64 – I’m in Salt lake so I hope that works. Let’s see what happens here in the last few days. If I don’t get overbid I would like to get your professional opinion of what this car is worth with such low miles and how collectible this style Cobra will be down the road. Seems like I am maybe 3 or 4 grand ahead of the game after delivery. And I am not selling it. Keeping it to tow behind my RV and then give to my son. ...
80s and 90s cars are the best investment cars right now. You can still buy original low mileage cars cheaper than it cost to restore one, which people are doing now and both accounts. They are very drivable cars in todays world or you can just put them away and watch them appreciate in value.

wondered if you know of any car transporters that carry to wisconsin and what they may charge
Excellent example of a stock and showroom new Cobra. Love the Laser Red and black combo. Does anyone know if all Cobras were 5 speeds in ‘96?
