This 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air is finished in black over a red interior and is powered by a factory fuel-injected 283ci V8 paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. As the recipient of a frame-off, Concours restoration by the seller's father, it is a two-time Antique Automobile Club of America 1st prize winner. Since its restoration, it has only been trailered to shows and always garages kept. Born a true black, fuel-injected car from the factory, this Bel Air is now offered for sale on a clean New Jersey title.
This Bel Air has been refinished in its factory original black during the frame-off, rotisserie restoration. The chrome, moldings, and trim were replated to a Concours level and the Chevrolet scripts, mesh grille insert, and front fender chevrons are rendered in anodized gold. The "Dagmar" style front bumper features a horizontal chrome insert along with rubber bumper guards and inboard turn indicator lights. The grille features two AACA badges for a Senior National 1st prize winner in 1995 and a Grand National 1st prize winner in 2007
Factory 14” wheels with chrome hubcaps are fitted to BF Goodrich Silvertown wide-whitewall vintage look radials. The Bel Air features a pillarless design with wrap-around glass in the front and rear. 1957 marked last year the Bel Air featured fully verticle tail fins in the rear quarter panels.
The interior features bench seats upholstered in red vinyl with the correct black and red "cloud" pattern inserts, trimmed with silver piping with matching style door panels. The headliner is upholstered in red vinyl with matching sun visors with the dash painted in the same shade of red. Black carpeting with rubber floor mats and rear package tray round out the soft surfaces. The dash houses a period-correct AM radio and analog clock, surrounded by a silver trim piece.
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a temperature gauge, and a fuel gauge. The odometer shows 1k miles, of which the seller has added about 50 over three years of ownership. The seller indicates that this Bel Air is trailered to shows and events.
The 283ci V8, fuel-injected engine is rated at 283 horsepower. Though not the original to the car, it is correct for what it was originally equipped with. The cosmetics of the engine bay were addressed during the restoration with painted inner fenders and firewall. All hardware and lines have been replated and are factory correct. The block has been painted in the correct shade of orange with matching valve covers, topped with the Rochester fuel-injection unit.
The underside of the car has been restored to factory specifications, including finishing in factory-correct red oxide primer. All components have been repainted or replated. Notable features include an original style dual exhaust system, drum brakes, 10-bolt rear end, and factory correct markings. Additional photos are viewable in the gallery
Included with the sale are photos documenting the restoration process. A shop manual, records binder, and a vintage calendar is also included in the sale. Located in Flemington, New Jersey, this Bel Air is offered for sale on a New Jersey title in the sellers name
