Vehicle Story

This 1983 Porsche 911SC Cabriolet is one of 4,214 produced for the year, but only one of 450 in its specific color scheme, and has reportedly covered 68,715 miles since new. Produced August 7 of 1983 according to an authenticated Porsche Production Specifications document, it came from the factory with forged alloy wheels, fog lamps, and Black over Red Special Leather. Power is produced by an air-cooled 3.0-liter M930 flat-six, which was installed by the original owner and is coupled to a 5-speed manual transaxle. A cosmetic refurbishment was carried out by the third of four owners. Finished with a black retractable soft top and roll bar, this final-year, enthusiast-owned 911SC is now offered with a clean CARFAX report, specifications document, current inspection, tonneau cover, a clear Virginia title in the seller’s name, and more.

First launched in 1978, the 911SC drew its name from “Super Carrera” and was touted as being a more refined version of the 911. This example comes from the final year of the model’s production run and is painted Black (A1), also known as "Lipstick." A black soft top is fitted and a tonneau cover will go with the car.

Forged alloy 16” Fuchs wheels with Porsche center crests are wrapped in BFGoodrich Comp T/A tires. Stopping power comes from power-assisted disc brakes at all four corners, and the body rides on a four-wheel independent suspension with front and rear stabilizer bars.

The interior is trimmed in Red Special Leather (70) upholstery with matching door panels and carpeting and contrasted by a black dash and steering wheel. The race-certified roll bar was installed behind the seats by a prior owner, and convenience features include an Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo, air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows. The factory radio is no longer with the car per the seller.

Instrumentation includes VDO gauges for a 160-mph speedometer and a 7,000-rpm tachometer along with an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 68,715 miles, very few of which have been added since the seller took possession in 2008. The mileage is reported to be original to the car.

The air-cooled, rear-mounted 3.0-liter M930 flat-six was an upgrade installed by the original owner and is reported to have produced 172 horsepower at 5,900 RPM and 189 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a G915 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller reports that the car has been regularly maintained during its life, and though driven sparingly over the past 12 years has received the requisite fluid changes and passed the annual state inspections.

Additional photos of the car, including the undercarriage, are found in the carousel.

The CARFAX report shows no history of accidents or damage, Florida, Michigan, and Virginia registration, and evidence of a battery replacement in June 2021. The sale includes a factory production specifications document, current inspection, manuals, tools, and a cover to protect the body while engine work is performed.

I reached out to the third owner who advised me that he did the chain tensioner but can't recall if the other items you mentioned were done. I have had Wyguil Automotive service the car since I purchased it- regular oil changes and in June replaced the battery. Thank you.

@DEANO911 – Forged Fuchs 16" ~ 8's and 11's? Tire sizes? OEM suspension? Engine tweaks? Ignition? A/C blows cold? Manual top / H2O tight? Numbers matching? The write-up suggests a motor swap? Did you take more pictures when it was up on the lift? What's the focus on the heat exchanger? Exhaust mods? Have the motor mounts been replaced? Please provide details (if known) on maintenance history - what's the local Porsche Service Manager pull up on their computer? Research through PCNA or PCA? SCCA - punch holes through the pan for a roll-bar? Almost zero miles driven but owned by an enthusiast? Lots of gaps and teleportation between states and tons of unknowns - can you fill us in? 🌴😎🌴 ...

I purchased this vehicle in July 2018 at which time it had 68,272 miles. My best friend told me he bought the car in Miami. He garaged it in Clearwater and told me he had the lubrication upgrade done by the local Porsche dealer @$10K and had the roll bar installed so he could run it on a local course. He sold it to a buddy who lived in Michigan and he restored the red leather interior, repainted the car, replaced the clutch, had the transmission rebuilt at a Porsche place, replaced the convertible top, the air conditioner compressor, alternator and tires. He told me that the transmission and engine numbers match. The wheels are beautiful but I can not confirm their source as my friend is dead. I have placed minimal miles of the car as I was busy running a business, a forty acres farm and had a fleet of other vehicles and was active in the Corvette Club, Mercedes Club and minimally involved with the Potomac Chapter of the Porsche club. To my knowledge and belief the engine is the original engine installed at the factory and has not been replaced. To the extent the writeup suggests otherwise it was not intended to do so. Thank you.
