27k-Mile 1998 BMW Z3 M Roadster

This 1998 BMW Z3 M Roadster has accrued 27,758 miles since new and is powered by a 3.2-liter S52 inline-six paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. According to production data from BMW, this is one of 742 examples for the North American market in its color combination. First sold in New Hampshire, the car was relocated to Florida in 2010 where it resided until returning to the New England area in 2019, having been passed down to the seller from his father. Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with a black retractable top over a black leather interior, this first-year Z3 M is now offered with a clean CARFAX report with a clear Massachusetts title in the seller’s name.

Beginning in 1998, the M-branded performance variant of the BMW Z3 roadster was launched which featured rollover hoops, a wider rear track, redesigned front and rear bumpers, and quad exhausts. This example is painted Arctic Silver Metallic (309) and is said to be free of damage, offering a contrasting power-operated black cloth retractable top with a plastic rear window. Exterior features include black door handles, vented front fenders, rollover hoops, and a trunk-mounted LED third brake lamp. Bright polished quad exhaust outlets that were specific to the M-model are featured at the rear.

Staggered-width 17” Style 40 five-spoke aluminum wheels with BMW-logo center caps are wrapped in three-year-old Bridgestone Potenza tires with good tread remaining. A recent strut and shock absorber replacement was performed by a BMW dealership, accompanied by a full alignment in May 2021.

The interior is fitted with power-adjustable black leather bucket seats and matching door panels, dash, and carpeting. The original cassette deck was removed and replaced with a factory cup holder. Amenities include a Harman-Kardon factory radio, cruise control, a center console, air conditioning, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and additional gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level in the cluster. The center stack hold gauges specific to the Z3 M including an analog clock as well as readouts for voltage and oil pressure. The digital odometer reads 27,758 miles, which per the seller is an accurate reading.

The 3.2-liter S52 inline-six features M Power branding and was rated at 240 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque when new. The CARFAX report shows that the car was serviced consistently at BMW of Sarasota, Florida over its lifetime and the oil and filter were most recently changed in April 2021. The battery will need to be replaced soon according to the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a ZF SF-31 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
